August

Happy August, everyone. I love to celebrate the smallest of holidays in order to make every day feel special, and celebrating the start of August has made for a lovely day.

Irish weather is volatile at best, so it was pure luck that today was sunny. I work indoors so only get to enjoy the sun on my days off, and anyone who has been to Ireland will tell you that an opportunity to absorb some vitamin D is not to be missed! This is me on the other side of the camera when I took the first picture.

Maybe it's because of my earlier post about appearances, but I had no problem taking a photo I knew I'd be putting online without being able to see it- the sun was in my eyes so I just took a click and decided that'd do. That level of comfort was really nice, and being as mellow as the day itself feels really fitting.
I live in a small city which means that I have the best of both in terms of things to do as well as access to nature. I'm from the countryside and while I love the hustle and bustle of city life, there was nothing I wanted to do today more than lie on the grass.

I really like this photo, because even though it's very simple, it says a lot to me. The ring is a symbol of my adopted home and the way I'm wearing it is a sign that I'm in love. My nails are colourful but short and chipped, but the sunshine has a wonderful way of making shabby things look beautiful. This photo really touches me for reasons I can't quite explain, but I don't want to explain them; I am more than content to bask in its warmth, like I did in the sun when I took it.

I passed by this disused waterworks on the way home. There are a lot of places in Ireland that are disused, but nicely painted and basically maintained in order to keep them looking nice. It's something I really appreciate about this country; we don't always have the means to keep businesses open or knock down old buildings, but we do what little we can to incorporate what is around us into our communities.
I'm hoping that the month of August will be as mellow as this first day. Hopefully there will be more sun, but I will be content if I can keep this sense of peace with me. I hope you're all having a good day and that you have a good month, too.
