#1 - Mario, Overcooked, and the Human Nature

in #blog7 years ago

After watching a bunch of Let's Play videos on YouTube, we bought a Nintendo Switch.
It was our Christmas present for ourselves.

Fallen in love with it's simplicity, portability, and overall fun-factor potential, it was a unanimous decision.
So off to the video game store we went, and swipe the credit card we did (6 months @ 0% interest? WHO CAN RESIST THAT?!).

First game we bought was Super Mario Odyssey. And it is glorious.
Put in a few good hours on that game, and I have to say it is my second favorite Mario game, after Super Mario Brothers 3.

Look at how goddamn happy Mario is.

Oh, and did you know a second player can control Mario's hat? HOW CREATIVE MR. SHIGERU MIYAMOTO.
The missus and I took turns on playing hero and sidekick. It is really, really fun.

Yes, fun times.

Then we bought Overcooked online.
The wife had played similar games before like Diner Dash, Cooking Dash, Restaurant Dash with Gordon Ramsey.

Yep, she likes them cooking games.

Me? I never cared for them, but the game had pretty good ratings in various gaming websites. What could go wrong?

Everything fell apart the first time we chopped onions in that hellish game.

The game demanded precise movements and laser-like focus like no other.

I swear to Buddha, if you fall off the slippery and icy cliff one more time...

The worst part is cooperation. The teamwork required is just off-the charts.
Both our patience and skills were tested.

I told you I needed mushrooms, not tomatoes! Curse you, woman!

Yes it is such an arduous game, yet I'm pretty sure we've logged in MORE hours playing Overcooked than Odyssey.
Why is that? I love a good challenge, but sometimes we get stuck in a stage for hours on end. It can be too much!
Our fingers and minds are at their limits after a session. I swear steam are coming out of our heads and hands.

Do we have masochistic tendencies? "A fine line between pain and pleasure" and all that stuff?

To the philosophers, I leave that question.

For now, cooking time! Woohoo!!
