5 freaking reasons to leave steemit

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

First I'm gonna rant about it.

  1. On a daily basis, I don't stop creating content.
  2. I spend time on my post doing research. Will be easier when I do some writing about my opinion, but whales doesn't like it
  3. I do filter my photos. What can be post, and what can't be.
  4. I spend time mingle with others so I get their attention
  5. I repeat the above consistently and hoping to gain more traction

And what do I get?

  1. Complement from a few friends that really read my work, but hardly any real conversation
  2. A bunch of trail upvotes that hardly made up some serious value
  3. A bunch of votes that is so obvious that the amount of people who viewed my post is less than 10% most of the time, because they're trail
  4. Upvote value that is so low that if divide the value by number of votes, it's hardly more than 1¢ per voter
  5. Consider lucky if I get anything more than 3$. That also being upvoted by my local community support.

Ugly truth

Let's face the truth. There's very little to no real readers here. Curation trail has their individual/specified working order, one gotta follow their rules and regulations. If you fail to comply, you don't get upvote from them. There's time that I made a post, waiting for upvote with full excitement. After an hour, there's about a dollar worth came in. And I will be expecting the same momentum continue for the next few days, not bad right! After 3 days my post would be atleast 72$. Sadly, it doesn't happen that way. Whatever happened to the voting list, it happens only within the first hour. There's a group of people who will vote you between 15 - 30 minutes. They know your potential of getting bigger payout later so they can earn a better curation reward. Some real readers will still upvote you by 30 minutes, and that too because they wanna take back their 25% curation reward. Technically, after the 1 hour period, chances of getting a real big upvote from your supporter become slimmer than your hair!

Things I learn to survive

So what the fish am I still doing here? Here's the thing I learned so far, and I'm HODLing them to my dearly blogging life.

  1. No one has ever promised to upvote me. Previously I have done my study when I reached 400 followers. Like less than 10% are reading my post. I need to get real and start to make real friends!
  2. No one has ever promised to give full upvotes to curation trail, or their voting power will drain in less than 5 minutes. I need to accept the fact people vote with 0.01% despite they have only 5sp, simply because they wanna support the trail, not me!
  3. When there's curation trail upvote, the number of voters will come in huge. I can't force them all to give me big upvotes, but atleast the curator is reading my post. So what if I only got 1 organic view and bunch of ghost votes? I need to get over it!
  4. As soon as I press the freaking POST button, immediately my post got pushed down and dropped off the screen. I can probably still find my post somewhere at the bottom of the south China sea. No one is obliged to dig up my post from there if I can't find it by myself!
  5. What's so attractive about my posts? Was it the picture? Was it the title? I recon none of them. The least a chick post her selfie worth clicking than my Fat ass cheek. I asked myself, will I click on a chick photo or myself? The answer is final, anytime I would click on that chick rather than myself! Trust me I'm not a sexist, but I do click on hot chicks photos, and numerous time I almost got phished. Reason that I'm still surviving is because I always misplaced my keys, that got me some time to think about what have I clicked.

Ugly truth isn't it? These all boil down to manage expectation. What I did was seeing other people success and hoping that with my skill, I will be able to replicate the same result as them. Have I ever thought of how many of those successful people are actually circle jerking? Have I ever thought of they spent hundreds of SBD buying votes from upvote bots and ended up harming everyone who bid for the same round of vote? And why the fish am I still blogging? Probably less then 2 will read until here, but let's put my real thought at the bottom of the ocean and see how many replies I get, probably some bots will come and ask me to follow, but I'm not going to give a damn anyway. I'm starting to realize, there's only so much skill I have in creating quality content. I don't need to race against anyone. I don't need to have any one to promise me anything. Last but not least, I need to thank my friends whose continue to upvote me and leave me real comments to help me improve. All I gotta do is continue steeming the hell out of my brain juice. Have fun singing karaoke and make people suffer from listening to my crap voice and see how people react. I'm gonna continue to keep my workout journal going on. One day, hopefully steem still exist, I will be reading back all these and take it as my personal diary. Money making is the motivation of keeping people to continue writing. Having writing as a passion is a total new territory to me, but I start to feel a pinch of sweetness in it.

Now bugger off. Start to create your own content or roll over and leave steemit.

Sort:

At least you're creating content.

Face it, when money is involved, things get clear - money first, everything else third, because you have to put how to spend the money at second. Steemit proves it. How to earn more? Vote early and get curation rewards, and do the same for as many potential posts as you can find. What is the main characteristic of potential posts? They are long. What does long posts do? They make you read for a long time. What's lost? Time. Hence, unless people don't care about the money part of Steemit and are having fun in the Steemit post list, no one bothers to give organic views. The last resort will be community support, and that is also the only resort. There's another way - an expensive way - buy votes to push your post all the way to the trending page, so that everyone that doesn't understand the logic behind the trending page will read it. Be sure to put a clickbait title, insane introduction, and a meme cover photo to get maximum attention.

Ranting is not the best way to create a post but still, this is my advice to all those new players in the Steemit world. If you can't create good original content, rant. I really seriously hate looking at all those copypastas on the Steemit post list and it just gets more and more serious as the number of accounts on Steemit increases (so you can see, "At least you're creating content", I'm appreciating every individual here that actually put effort to make the world a better place). You can just pick any crap and complain about it to make a 400 word essay. If you can't, you have no rights to complain about it . Maybe I shouldn't write it here but put it somewhere in my own post, but that's for a later date.

Circle jerkers are something. Algorithms are just maths - they can be played. Maths is the logic of the world, deal with it.

Here's a potion that temporarily reduces your IQ to negative, drink it and treat this place like Facebook and tell me if it helps your mood. If it does, I might mass produce them and probably earn more than just posting here :) The main point of joining in something is to have fun and if this does not give any fun, quit it. Which obviously you won't. You had so much fun singing lmao.

Very much appreciate your comment here.

Face it, most people I met who has more then 500SP, they give even lesser upvote than they were before they can control their upvote weight. But ofcourse, I also seen "Happy Dolphin" <= if you know who am I referring to, burst his voting power because he's happily upvoting every single good content he came across and forgotten he need to take care of the number of posts he upvoted! You can never compare here with Facebook, because the number of "likes" doesn't have a value. 1 can have thousand "likes" in Facebook, but it doesn't happen here in Steemit, simply due to the reason of "vesting". A sligthly easier to compare situation between YouTube and Dtube will be, I've seen YouTuber jump to Steemit to earn. Needless to say, because these are already well paid YouTuber, getting like 200$ a week from YouTube. Once they shifted over, what do they get? Delegations. Upvotes from Dtube/Dlive. And on the brag war begun, talking about how underpaid they got from their previous platform, and over here 1 post would have make them easily 300SBD which topped the previous platform pays. Try again, ask another YouTuber who has only 400 subscriber and jump to Dtube/Dlive, guess what? 0.01 upvote, all by the author him/herself.

I'm glad you got my point. Manage expectation is what we can do right now.

要慢慢消化才行

好。慢慢。

对咯!写华文版本,看看有没有更惨……
悲哀啊……

@davidke20 read our posts and points out our mistake and reply our questions!! How much efforts he has putted in!!! He helps the minnows like me especially who wrote in Chinese language!!!!

He cares us!! Who else cares us???? I pity him being use and don't get appreciated!!!

I pissed off the ppl that used him and don't appreciate him.

Lolz. Calm down. Nobody can use anybody here. It's communal driven. I'm glad you're trying to defend me, you're 1 of the few who have consistently give me support, and that's all I'm looking for. That's the drive that keeps me going. Cheers and go benefit more plankton like ourselves.

Haha... yes pass on the attitude that you demonstrated to he people around.... but where is the whale that can help things out.... 🤧
Cheers.

@kevinwong is still here. Need to stop mentioning what whales can do for us. Try to think it this way, what can we do to make the whales to upvote us, some said, suck a whale dick. Others, spend SBD to bid for whale bot votes. Which would you rather be?

I can only keep writing and writing and wait for whale to upvote me Big one!!!
Hmmmm.... sighhhh

but hardly any real conversation
There's very little to no real readers here.

This is the same in any other platforms. Actually, most will be performing worse elsewhere in average.

Upvote value that is so low that if divide the value by number of votes, it's hard less 1¢ per voter

If Steem goes 100x (which is 10% of facebook's valuation), then that 1cent will be a dollar.

I guess what Steem needs now is a communities feature where people can find each other. Still waiting for that. Anyway, maybe I'll repost some of my old posts that sort of sheds light to what Steem is. It's not really blogging per se lol.

And yeah, I think using it as self-development personal diary is best. I used to write my stuff in private. Anything here, just open it up. Nothing to lose really and everything to gain.

If Steem goes 100x (which is 10% of facebook's valuation), then that 1cent will be a dollar.

And when that happen, Steem price will be like what? 90$? And the payout will have 37.5% goes to divide by 90 and I'll get my 0.01sp I believe? Don't get me wrong, I'm not challenging you. I know I can always use my SBD to buy Steem, which few early adopters does it (I know you did, I did read your posts >:) R E G U L A R L Y! And including older posts), my point is, despite all that, the amount will never take me to @kevinwong 's 10% SP volume, atleast not within the next 5 years.

Thanks for dropping by. Am surprised to see your reply and also thanks for the big upvote. You yourself is already my Steemit Bible. I'm not shoeshining you, but sometimes I did write up and quoted your previous posts for my readers to understand what am I trying to achieve. Here's my 11 days old piece. Part of your vote is there too.

About $200. Yes, if in terms of SP earning, it will be lesser, just as mining difficulty of any networks will increase with adoption. For Steem, next phase of major distribution is SMTs. Good plans will get Steem funds, just like what happened with Ethereum. It will be hard though, now that the cryptocommunity is maturing, although I think entrepreneurs would be able to translate business ideas well with a Steem-like framework.

Thanks for reading and writing-up really. Tbh I don't even know what I'm doing half the time and just planning to manage my thoughts, connections, information, etc well enough to go by. I tend to do a lot of research so I hardly find time to read anything else most of the time.

If your repost your old posts that would be very useful for all of us here, as a guideline to swim in this sea... :D

Yoo!! Brother you are here.... ok... you are the handsome boy too..... 🙈🙈🙈 confusing....

well i actually read the whole post.
i think you may have to adapt and rethink your strategy.
People dont read long posts? write shorter entries.
People that you upvote dont return the favor? Stop upvoting

etc etc
writing in english would also help :)

Thanks dude. I'm writing this post to fish you out. You have been quietly power up and upvoting me for too damn long and I didn't get to talk to you and upvote you. I made a new friend @crypto.piotr you may find his posts interesting.

ok I followed him ;]

hi @ghua
pleased to meet you. I noticed that you're not very active on steemit? I checked your blog but it's all empty :(

nah, to be honest I am not writing at all - I guess there is enough spam out there. Once I have sth valuable to communicate, I will post it :D

thx for your kind reply

so actually what do you do here? :)

I mostly read and upvote ;)

Cheers mate :) I appreciate that you've mentioned my name :)

@ghua is more of a curator right now. He has been leaving comments and discussion everywhere . Nobody know why hasn't he make a post. He's been committing since his first post, started to empowering himself with SP to upvote others instead of making post. Will just have to wait until he's online and share his thoughts.

Oh, that will make it harder to stay in touch with @ghua if I cannot get his attention by commenting his posts. Well. Thanks for replying (as always) :)

You're the man! :)

Oh no.... I don't write in English most of the time.... :(
Who is going to read my poor English... oh no....

I finished reading everything and everyone's comments, and I love the way you rant!! Lol... Your work out and singing posts already a signature contents, just continue or else your followers will be disappointed!!

加油,大哥!

In return, give you a free 45 minutes massage. Come.

wahahahaha comment i also read ok....

yes!me too. I'm here to prove it.

Don't want, I want upvote!! (merajuk ni)
Hahahaha!!!!

2 hrs already $2.12, not bad wor...

i don't just upvote, i actaully read the posts I upvote. I'm sure many of your followers manual curate so you do have some great followers out there :)

Super touch. Almost did not roll down manly tears.

hahaha seriously so dramatic

Tip for your great effort ❤️

@tipU upvote this post with 0.5 SBD

2 hours now. Let's try this post without community upvote where will it be after 7 days?

Sorry, @tipU needs to recover voting power - will be back in 11 hours and 16 minutes. Please try then!

See, there are still many people read your posts to the last line and even the comments below. Cn-community needs you! We all know that you have put in effort into the local cn community.. Even whale also notice you..haha. Cheers!!
I agree with you that we should change the mindset and treat steemit as an open diary to ownself when blogging, otherwise too much expectation on the money rewards is just so demotivating. I will read Steemit articles on and off when I'm free, cause i think many smart people here and their sharing is most of the time eye-opening and definitely benefits me. Instead of watching movies all the time in my leisure time, i prefer doing things like reading books or spending time on steemit, but i prefer to do it at my own pace and time without pressure as I believe in this way, i will be able to stick around on steemit for longer time.

无语了。谢谢你。尽在不言中。

I read your post and I give you a "big" upvote haha

Come sing karaoke together

OK. I am one of those who read the whole post. haha
Let's continue to sing karaoke and show our Fat ass cheek in the clip, shall we? :P

I can always rely on you! When my song no one collaborate, you're always there!
