Politeness is indeed the most desired virtue during modern times when human life has become fast-paced, hectic and stressful. There is no denying the fact that failures, frustrations and disappointments have given rise to psychological issues like stress and depression. People belonging to all age groups ranging from school-going children, teenagers and adults to even elderly people have become the victim of psychotic disorders in today's world.

When there is so much of turmoil in the lives of humans, there arises the urgent need to do something earnestly to restore virtues like politeness, modesty and courtesy as it is these fundamental virtues that can go a long way in dealing with the psychological disorders in present times.

When it comes to living in society, being polite is one of the most basic requirement. If you are polite with people around you, you will not only earn their respect but you will also contribute towards making people happy and this is without any doubt a noble task that may look quite insignificant at first glance but is actually a great service to mankind.

No doubt it is easier to say something than to do it. But the beginning has to be done from somewhere and when it comes to start a movement, we must commence by doing something ourselves or in other words, we must lead by example. Politeness doesn't cost a single penny or it rather earns rich dividends in the long run.

For example, if two equally intelligent candidates appear in an interview for a job, the one with polite demeanour will have far better chances of being selected. However well-meaning you may be at heart, if you speak out harsh words, you will face hurdles wherever you go. A student speaking politely becomes the favourite of his teachers and a soft-spoken teacher gets the respect from his students. Such is the magic of politeness that half your work gets done in the very beginning when you have just started to speak to get your work done.

When it comes to one's personal and professional life, polite behaviour does the desired trick. A foul-mouthed husband becomes the cause of the undoing of his married life. The growing cases of divorces and separation are the direct result of being impolite with one's spouse. Both the husband and the wife may have their differences on some issue, but if they talk politely with each other, the chances of divorce are without any doubt negligible. Problems in one's marital life are thus caused by stress that is further brought about by disappointments and frustrations of life. It is an incontestable fact that by being polite with others, we can help people deal with psychological problems like depression and stress.

Our children learn from us because we are the closest to them and we are the ones with whom they spend the most of their time. If they see us behaving politely with others, they will too quite obviously become humble subsequently when they grow up. The mind of a child is like a clean slate and we can write anything on it. If we imprint virtues in their mind and heart, they will definitely become good human beings.

The be all and end all of this write-up is that we must start from ourselves when it comes to being polite. If we are well-behaved, soft-spoken and down-to-earth while interacting with people around us, we will get the similar treatment in return at the hands of others. Let us practice being polite so that this virtue gets ingrained in our personality. When our personality becomes pleasing, its direct effect will be on our personal and professional life. Therefore let's start doing our bit by being polite with everyone around us from today itself as one small step taken today will make us inch towards a better world.
