Project E39

Welcome to the first part of the journey of transforming an old damaged German saloon into something more modern and sporty. It's a 1997 BMW 5series (E39) with a little 2.8 liter 6-cylinder petrol engine and a quite lot of problems.

Future plans/End result

So I bought this car about 3-4 months ago for 800 euros, knowing that there would be lots of repairs to be done. It came with a dented bonnet, rusted fenders, shadered headlights, cracked front bumper, no handbrake, "Sport Exhaust"(read: straight pipe), missing coolant fan and some other electrical issues. Later I discovered that the coolant pump was also busted, along side with some melted seals and gaskets. Luckily there seems to be very tiny amount of corrosion on the body itself, only minor spots and plus small scratches and few dents. Interior is mostly fine, except for the driver's seat's ripped cloth.

So this series is going to be about fixing the bimmer, starting from the rusty bottom to bodyworks and possibly swapping the engine for something a bit bigger.

First priority is rust removal and corrosion proofing the underside of the body.
