Building the Nation 2019

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone! How have you been? I hope your 14th of February had been as beautiful as how your smiles could be painted on a canvas. I am so sorry. I could not help but be very corny nowadays. Hahaha!

Anyway, for today I will share to you one of my 2019 highlights. I know this post has been long overdue but I could not help it. I was just so busy and I had no drive for writing or even sharing minute details to you all.

Let's get started, shall we?

It was just this year that I was assigned to be the Regional Chairperson of Young Centrists Union of Northern Mindanao (+ Pagadian Chapter on my book). Yehey! Sure thing I was not expecting that to happen.

*Now, how did this happen?* Well, the Regional Chairperson for our chapter was hired by a company in the metro after graduating from college and so she vacated the position. I have thought that one cannot just easily do that, but what can I do? What has ought to be done has been done. And since I was the Secretary-General at that time and the Vice Chairperson could not be reached, I was tasked to take over the position as the OIC *or officer-in-charge*. It was not easy at all because I really have no idea what to do especially that there were no tasks that had been turned over to me. No documents. Na dah! Na dah! The contact details of the respective Chairperson of every chapter was not even available.

So... on the second week -- well it was more like the third week of November, I got so busy calling and sending messages to different people. I really need to come up with the number of delegates for the upcoming (at that time) 2019 convention. I also needed to convince them to join and sure thing it was not easy because they too were very busy in their respective fields.

Faaaaast forward! And we were able to meet each other at the airport. Of course, we were riding the same plane because they needed to book it in orderly manner, except to those who were from Pagadian City. They have an airport so they just travelled there to NAIA Airport then.

Obviously we were all exhausted since we were busy on out respective field, but we were excited for the event as well.

This is us while waiting for our van that would take us to the airport. Metro Manila is indeed very hot and humid.

I am still at awe whenever I am in the Metro. Although we have high rise building in Cagayan de Oro City, it was not as many and as high as theirs. I was just a bit worried during our stay there though because earthquakes had occured recently and that the metro has been known to have the biggest fault line and a devastating earthquake might occur anytime which is also known as the big one.

**During the Seminar** Although I had been quite sleepy most of the time, I could not deny that every talk was important. Some of those were quite familiar to me, but still I am grateful because I had been reminded on some of the principles of nation-building. The speakers were also great included Atty./ Dean Chiel Diokno. Although he was from a different political party, not the political party that I supported last election, I gained a lot of wonderful insights from him.

Perks in Nation-Building

Despite all of the hardships that us, nation-builders had experienced, certainly there are perks that we also get; part of this is travelling to places for free (like to some extent, you really do not need to spend any at all).

For our stay in Makati, I got to share this beautiful bedroom with Charmaine, an SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) Chairperson. By the way, she's one of our delegates and member of YCU Cagayan de Oro Chapter. She happens to be very busy though as a nation-builder and working in the call center industry.

Anyhow, I just really love the bed and the comforter. The room is basically clean. And because we got to stay on the 13th floor, I get the chance to see the busy streets of Makati Avenue.

The other perk that I love is I ger to meet my old friends like reconnect with them. I also get to make new friends. Seminars are really boring and I don't want it to be that way.

I got to meet a friend from Vietnam. He happens to live nearby our hotel. He's a sports writer.

I also got to meet @ninjace. He is really tall, that sometimes I wish I have long legs like him. We just spent some time talking about some things in life in our hotel lobby. I did not even noticed that we talked until six in the morning.

Unlike the other delegates, I was not able to roam around freely because we needed to discuss a lot of issues that the Mindanao Island is facing. I am just really glad that Rhealyn, a delegate from Visayas, toured me around Makati Avenue. It wasn't much but I could not complain.

There were stray cats along the way but they were not awkward, and instead they allowed me to pet them.

It was so funny too because we got lost while heading home. The passage where we passed has been closed so we needed to look for another route. It was quite confusing actually.

PS I know this post has been long overdue, but what can I do?

Lots of love,
Johanna Gail
