2018-05-24: Inefficient

in #blog6 years ago

Shallow Thoughts

I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to optimize for efficiency in my life. There are limited hours in my day and limited years in my life, so I try to get the most out of it. Work efficiently. Work out efficiently. Sleep efficiently. Invest efficiently. Spend my free time productively with my loved ones. It can be exhausting at times, but I find it to be the only fulfilling way to live.

Deep Thoughts

When I stare at my sunflowers, tomatoes, and oak trees and accidentally meditate on life, I'm struck by how inefficient the natural processes are. Plants produce thousands of seeds in the hope that a few will survive. Hundreds of leaves are needed to create enough sugar for a single fruit. Over a lifetime, a man produces millions of sperm and a woman produces dozens of eggs, but a couple will only bear a few children. When you look at it by the numbers, it seems very inefficient...

But then I realize that the inefficiency of natural processes is not wasteful. . .

If nature produces something, then nature always finds a way to recycle it.

Nature is not optimized for efficiency. . . it's optimized for survival :)

Bonus Thoughts

I love how we try to always put our human emotions on nature :) I guess Mother Nature has no need for human efficiency; she does what she does, when she wants. Yes, that's your opening to insert any women jokes you want haha

I know better than to take the bait on that one ;-P

hahaha smart man! 😂

a very useful post for all @grolelo.
why can you contemplate life?

Nature has its own efficiency cycle..

may b we cant fit into that, so we create our own...

Nature is grateful if you treat it with love, it is simple. It gives fruts and it nourishes itself, you remind me a little bit because I recently gave myself to plant cilantro in the farm and the process of cleaning the land, making pits, compost, waiting to throw the seeds, and that's when nature he revives and gives his gratitude. But also as they say there, the country is virtue

You disappeared again buddy; just checking in to see that all is well with you and yours! :)

I'm still alive, checking in on Steem every so often, thanks for asking! Just been busy with life. How are you holding up?

You're welcome; good to hear. I'm holding up well, thanks for asking. Brian's had a couple of good days and my brother (the one who lives in Frisco) was here with his family for a visit. Always nice to see family :)
