What A Fool Believes...
The song was written by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins and made famous by the Doobie Brothers as a track on their 1978 album Minute by Minute.. It won two Grammys in 1980. Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Why? This line. I'm sure of it. "What a fool believes, he sees."
I would elaborate. What a fool (or any of us) believes s/he receives.
When we are programmed to default to a belief that we are unworthy or undeserving or life is hard or unfair, no matter how much proof and evidence there might be to support these 'facts', we are like the blind men describing an elephant. We see what we believe. We receive through those parameters.
This song was used as part of the soundtrack to a favorite film, Personal Best, with Mariel Hemingway. A favorite because it shows what determination, perseverance and collaboration with a dash of selflessness, can accomplish.
My favorite line in the film is spoken by the 'boyfriend' character toward the end of the film. He is encouraging a despairing young runner, his girlfriend, saying "You're not responsible for how good he is (another athlete) or for the color of your eyes...the only thing you are responsible for is being a little bit better today than you were yesterday."
One of the great lines written for Yoda is: "You must unlearn what you have learned."
My students always respond "...and then what?"
THEN, young padawan, anything is possible.
Drop the fixed positions. Drop the defenses. Be fully present in each moment and morph in every way you can!
There are worlds to be born of our dreams. Our beliefs create our experiences of reality.
What if you believed that anything is possible? What internal software would be replaced? What re-boots would you live through? What adventures are waiting? What would be possible if you had courage in the face of a complete hardware reset?
You do. We all do. We may not have exersized that muscle lately. Are you ready to be strong?
I love this piece. Thank you for sharing. "what re-boots would you live through... what adventures are waiting?" CTRL, SHIFT, DELETE - All... yes!! xxxx
Thank you! Keep shifting!
YES. :)
