Find a Community You LOVE!
After 26 years of searching I finally found what I DIDN't know I was looking for!
So as always you can watch the video first, and then read, or do both :)
The Story
Okay so here's the deal, I thought I was doing fine in life. I'm happily married, have some friends, relatives are all alive and well and I love my job. Yet if I was really honest, something was missing, and I didn't know what. By pure coincidence I joined a Skills & Smiles session in a park on a summer Sunday afternoon and guess what, it was exactly what I was looking for. People from various nationalities coming together, bringing food and joining in acrobatic style events. I have since then been relatively active in this community learning, and then teaching Acroyoga, which is a combination of yoga and acrobatics, in my hometown and across the country.
Why be part of a Community
Look, your parents may be nice people, you may love you friends, yet a community is something in a different category. As most of you have found out right here on Steemit, a community is the magic sauce. It's people from different walks of life finding common grounds because there is something that we all have in common. Apart from meeting people with a joint interest, you also have the opportunity to contribute to this group of people. Building together to reach shared goals, spend time in great enjoyment and help each other to forget lows and reach new highs, it's all part of the community life.
How to find a Community that fits You
You may ask, yeah dude that's really nice but I'm not an acrobat, how do I find a group that I like, or even better will love. To be honest, it is very simple: try things. Try new things, things that you may think you will like, things of which you aren't sure, things within and well without your comfort zone. Going to this first event was right on the edge of my comfort zone for me. I was afraid I would spend my day with a bunch of weed smoking hippies, I couldn't have been more wrong, and this may as well be the case for you.
Look at local events happening in your town, or even a bit further away. It could be bbq contests, supercar gatherings or knitting clubs, it doesn't matter what it is. As long as there is a little voice inside you that says, hmmmm maybe this is something I might enjoy go check it out! If it turns out to be horrible, ey at least you got a new experience. Yet you may just stumble upon the most amazing group of people you've ever seen giving you joy beyond your imagination!

Beautiful work .. amazing idea
The style of closed courses in any field is very effective
Thanks for sharing
I agree with you. I believe community is a human need. I feel incredibly grateful to have found steemit because I have found "my people" and they are from all over the world.
I'm no longer limited to what I can see and touch outside my doors. I can make real connections with real people in this virtual setting. It's beautiful.
I cringe a little when I hear adults gripe about kids and their screens. These kids aren't just mindless zombies staring into lighted glass. They are connecting, learning, and socializing. When I was a kid and a friend moved away, I just never saw that person again. Now my kids are able to play in the park with friends and speak to them by skype when they get home.
I am so happy you found your community. I think we are best when we have the support of people we like and are comfortable with. I think many Americans like me are lacking community. Especially because our culture emphasizes individuality and we don't tend to live with extended family.
Lacking community can be so lonely. Thanks for sharing your story about how sweet it can be.
Yes! I've had some really insteresting talks with my grandparents (88,85 years old) and I've actually made them realise that, yes even though staring at a screen all day is not that good maybe, yet we are socialising more with friends, and people from all over the world then they did back in the day when they had the same age :)
That's awesome that you have your grandparents to talk to about things like this. I can't imagine how much they've seen change over their lifetimes.
@markdeheide you are awesome. <3
