Huddersfield, the Jewel in Yorkshire's Crown

in #blog6 years ago

Haven't posted in ages; too many projects started and waiting for materials before they can proceed.

First of all; is anyone else having problems with steemit flipping portrait photos to landscape? Anyone know how to fix it other than cropping and re-saving the photos?

In the mean time, we've been on a weekend break to Huddersfield in the beautiful West Riding of God's Own Country™ - Yorkshire; sorry America.

I must admit, I was a little skeptical about the choice of destination (not mine), wondering would it live up to the phrase "It's grim up North"? I should probably have prefaced that by saying that my Dad's from Horsforth, just outside Leeds; and while the bleak beauty of Ilkley Moor is only a short drive away, Horsforth itself hasn't always been very pretty. How happy I was to be proven wrong. Huddersfield does have an industrial background, but it also has lovely parks and green spaces... and the Magic Rock Brewery.

Anyhoo, here's a few holiday pics from a gloriously sunny weekend spend up hill and down dale.

First walk: Marsden to Marsden.

We found a suitable rocky outcrop on the moor to sit for a wine picnic.

We took a wrong turn somewhere on our walk, so after 5 hours when we were supposed to be back in Marsden, we ended up in the village of Delph, where we stopped at the Old Bell Inn and had a welcome respite before a taxi back to Huddersfield, and then the Magic Rock Brewery.

Below: a tasting selection from the Magic Rock Brewery.

I think this was Salty Kiss?

There another great pub we went to later that evening The Grove, which has a fantastic selection of beers, and really helpful staff who will happily make great recommendations based on what you're asking for.

The following day we had a walk around Holmfirth before driving home.

This is definitely where Scooby Doo and the Gang would the caretaker's monster costumes he uses to scare the locals away from the hidden treasure.

Thanks for having a look, and hope you enjoy!
