Money Hacks #7 - Take Your Lunch

in #blog6 years ago

This is a series of Money Hacks to help to make extra money by creating habits in your life. Previously I'd touch on a few of these Money Hacks but wanted to go more in-depth and didn't want to produce a 10,000-word monster article for you to read.

This series will only be completed when I run out of ideas to share so make sure you bookmark this site.

Take Your Lunch

I can't believe the amount of people that still buy their lunch on daily basis, then have the balls to complain how broke they are every single day. However, what they don't realize is, by making their lunch and taking it every day they could save over a thousand dollars each year.

Wow!

But it's true. Even if you're only spending $5 a day for lunch, over the course of a year you'll easily save over $1000. However, the average value of a takeaway meal is pushing up towards $10, so your savings could be far greater.

And your lunch doesn't need to be boring as you can see in the main image. Of course, that greatly depends on how interesting your evening meal was and if you can take any left overs into work.

But even if you have to make it from scratch it'll only take 5 minutes to prepare a sandwich or yummy wrap, and did I mention you could save over $1000 per year doing this?

And I get it, making lunch is boring day after day, so consider finding 4 other friends to 'lunch share' with and take it in turns bringing in a lunch for everyone, once a week.

It'll be cost effective and you might get some interesting meals, that you might not have otherwise prepared yourself.

And if these are really good friends, you could all go on a short holiday together at the end of the year as more incentive to stick to taking your lunch rather than buying it.

Buying your lunch occasionally is fine, but when it's a habit, it's one you should really try to break if you're serious about saving extra money.

Do you take your lunch, or buy it? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
