Nigeria and its beautiful culture part1 (EDO CULTURE)
Today we will be discussing about cultural background and I will be starting with mine. Nigeria (my country) is famous for its art work, but we will be talking about the Benin culture (Edo), bronze casting is the greatest defining characteristic of the historic kingdom, it is one of the most important trademarks and inheritance of the ancient city of Benin. These piece are mostly made of brass of various compositions, some are made from mixture of bronze and brass, of wood , of ceramic among other materials. They are used for house decoration and also for gifts, they also contains cultural symbols.
LOCAL FOOD
Before now in Benin , cooking is usually done outside the house but during raining season a small hut is built for cooking and storage purpose, women and girls cook family meal although more young men are learning how to cook. Cassava, rice, corn are the primary starches while sauces contain okra, tomatoes , pumpkin seed, peanut seeds, egg plant and vegetables. The local drink is palm wine gotten from its original source.

The state is self sufficient in food production, but about half of the population is into agriculture and traditional system of internal trade still function to move food from one area to another
DRESSING
The Bini kingdom has been known to have many significant traditional roles for the coral beads.

The women usually tie wrapper round their chest , their hair decorated with the coral bead and also worn on their neck and wrist. The make wear a flowing agada with red coral bead in their wrist and neck.
Edo people are very productive and humble individuals am so happy am from there, Am proud of my culture!!!!! Next will be the Yoruba culture, very rich culture you don't want to miss out.!

I studied at Uniben and learnt a little about the Bini culture, the people are friendly when you keep it simple, observe cultural values, revere the Oba and the ladies aint half bad either. I miss that city sometimes and will be back there in July.
