Here's My Blog post about The Science of Forgiveness

This blog is compiled on a recent research that I was into since last couple of weeks. The major contribution to this is done by my fellow mates, friends and some anonymous compassionate souls. To add your response to this fill in its survey form at the link provided below.

In this blog post, you will be updating yourself with some choicest thoughts on “The Science behind Forgiveness“ specifically on the following points:-

  • The ideology behind forgiving someone & seeking forgiveness .
  • My experience on forgiveness.
  • Statistics that I noted while studying about this.
  • The benefits of forgiving someone.
  • The Science behind forgiveness.

The ideology behind forgiving someone & seeking forgiveness.

According to the web Forgiveness is “the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings, emotions and attitude regarding an offence.”

Moreover, I feel that forgiveness is more of a 2 dimensional philosophy of colourful Emotions. Well forgiveness is a loaded word, It has been tossed around us a lot many times in some or the other situation, but little do we care of what the Science behind forgiveness can teach us about our own lives. To be clear forgiveness is not saying what happened was okay, it doesn’t mean that you become their best friend & accept the person who did wrong to you. Instead forgiveness can mean that you let go off your Ego & care more about your initial relation with that person. It means that you step into your present rather than anchoring your past with unhappy memories.

Forgiveness is the medicine of any relationship, whether it is about friendship or romantic attachment. It generally messes up because we assume people think according to our perception of life. But it generally chooses the opposite way. More because there are as many perceptions as there are people in this world. And in general our lack of understanding of other people’s perceptions can create gaps built on miscommunication, animosity & emotional disconnection. However the veracity suggests that mutual understanding and being proactive in any situation can help to reconnect the gap between any relationships where Forgiveness can be proved to be the most important tool to do so.

Although there are a variety of definitions of Forgiveness, research by some authentic psychologists & psychiatrists suggests that it has 3 common components:-

  1. Gaining a more balanced view of the offender & the event.
  2. Decreasing negative feelings towards the offender & potentially increasing the compassion.
  3. Giving up the right to punish the offender further or to demand the restitution.

While it is often suggested that one force to stop people with forgiving is the idea of being seen as weak & saying that what the offender did is excusable. However re-imagining the concept of forgiveness, it actually takes more strength to forgive. Staying angry, bitter & toxic is easy for most of the times. It takes a much internal power & conviction to forgive someone. So, Forgiveness is morally seen as a sword of Emotion.

To be continued ...

I appreciate your Comment.

Being able to forgive is to allow yourself to be free of the hatred and bitterness brought about by the circumstances. It takes time and a courageous and understanding heart to fully give forgiveness. However, once given it is the best gift both to yourself and the offender.
