Why Older Generations Could Do Way More Than Us

in #blog7 years ago

This is a meme, but it is also true.

We have major public figures talking about things like carbon emissions, climate change, the Paris Accord, etc. and yet none of the policies brought forward do a damn thing to fix the real problems with the environment and with infrastructure.

By now, the food business is so stratified with other crony programs and corporate entities that it's best to simply find a way to opt out. Nobody is able to innovate in this field because of regulations that are designed to pay favors to corporations that fund political campaigns. All of which has nothing to do with helping the members of society to maintain a healthy diet.

And the society is also far too dependent on these infrastructures. This isn't even completely the fault of the people, as there are regulations against things like gardening, well-digging, water catching, and personal energy production devices.

Basically, the system of corporate cronyism is designed to keep innovation stifled and the public dependent on goods and services that are becoming increasingly worse.

Solution

Do it yourself.

To the largest extent that you are able.

If you are generating your own energy, growing your own food, collecting your own water, treating your own sewage, etc. you will be much safer in case of another depression or a new kind of catastrophic emergency.

Earthships

Earthship biotecture technology is the answer.

Earthships are homes that are built out of repurposed materials, have a south-facing greenhouse that regulates temperature and grows food, have solar and wind power elements to power them, have a water catching system that provides for all water requirements, and a gray-water treatment system that maximizes water by using it 3 times before being done with it.

Imagine not having to pay an energy bill, a water bill, a sewage bill, or a grocery bill, and in fact -- if you plug your energy system into the grid, the government will even pay you for the excess you create -- you'll even earn money from it.

These things make people more self-sufficient and provide more liberty by freeing people of dependance on centralized authority and utility.

Your supply chain will be as local as possible, and you'll know how to do everything for yourself.

One of my goals is to live a self-sufficient lifestyle but sadly, I'm still so far from it. Earthships are awesome but I think they require meticulous research and careful planning.

You can do it! I wouldnt say its very hard compared to building with concrete and rebar.. much less technical in fact. But yes you DO need to be really careful..

I successfully built a REALLY challenging custom design earthship in a very challenging place with zero building experience and succeeded.. so i can tell u, just be brave and go for it.. you can do it!

Thanks for the encouragement! Your earthship looks awesome too! I hope someday I'll be able to build one like yours. I just need money to buy land and more money for tools and materials.

yes.. this is the main hurdle really is money.. once you have that and some land.. the rest is just time and perseverance.. It took me about 15 years to manifest mine in total.. so no rush! ;-)

Great information here. I totally agree and want to live like that as well.

I always tell myself that I'm lucky. I was born in 1983 some time before technology totally invaded us, so for almost half of my life I wasn't dependent on technology as millions of people are now, I think I might survive in an Armagedon Hypothetical Scenario, we cannot allow ourselves to lose humanity.

I sympathize strongly. I was born in 82 and remember a time before hi-tech. I'm really glad I had that experience.

I love the concept of the earthship and agree if you grow it you know it on your foods.

absolutely! Its hard to know or trust any company these days as even integrous ones can fall foul to any number of entry points for none organic chemicals..

i have some nice fruits and veggies growing in my earthship and even the water they live off is reliable as its rainwater harvested.. Very nice, hardly need to wash anything even.. ;-)

I agree with @shayne especially in the area of food. The older generation ate more natural food which is more healthy.

Yep, all those big names talk and talk about saving the planet, but...

  • they live in large, inefficient houses/mansions.
  • they don't have their gardeners plant a garden
  • they fly places in their private jets, the least cost effective form of transportation.
  • they haven't even looked at earth-ships, although they should be the ones blazing the trail.

And we, the little people live in houses made of ticky-tacky.
With pathetic insulation values. And pathetic aesthetics.

I am looking forward to the destruction of suburbs that will be caused by people fleeing the soul destruction of strip malls.

They are practical..
We are not..
So they are awosome in their works..

THis is the only way to real security these days! In fact i wrote a post about just this recently.

Really cool stuff, man!

wish my upvote was worth more...
i have been looking at these for such a long time. i hope one day. for now, we've relocated to another state in hopes of doing a earthbag foundation, with straw bale walls. dreams to come true :)
Amen on all your points above!

Thank you! Good luck and keep us updated :D

Love the post! Second pic reminds me a bit of my house. Similarities with Earthships, but not using their U design
