Acceptable societal slavery in the form of having maids/domestic workers
Just because they aren't as privileged as you doesn't give you a chance to treat them like shit. These days maids have become a tool for abuse and bartering. Some people forget that the way a slave was born is the same way a child was born too. Maids are not to be treated as animals, of which even animals don't deserve ill treatments from anyone because they have done no one any offense.

Modern day societal slavery and abuse is especially very rampant in my country (Nigeria). Young people, especially girls are lied to and tricked out of their homes with the promise of a better life in the city. And when they finally arrive in the city where assurances were given to their parents before bringing them to the so called promised land, they are being subjected to different degrees of hardship and maltreatment without their parents in the villages having an idea what their children are going through. A lot of them are denied access to education, sent to hawk the street and even prostitution thus putting them in harms way.
The most painful part of it is that in most cases where these maids are sexually harassed by the husbands of the women they are working for, the women instead of blaming their husbands for their barbaric acts, points accusing fingers to these innocent girls claiming they seduced their husbands. I read the story of a 19 year old girl who was bathed in hot water by her employer for having a sexual relationship with her husband. Hot water !!! Is this not plain wickedness???

Another country where i have read about the high prevalence rate in maid/domestic staff abuse is Singapore. Where maids especially from the Philippines are abused and deprived of food. Why would you torture your domestic worker ? Is it his or her fault that they ain't as privileged as you are ? Some people use hot metals to inflict injuries on their maids because of one little mistake or the other.
Maids, mostly girls in their teens and early adulthood receive different types of abuse. Physically, verbally, sexually, emotionally and a lot more. I ask myself everyday, when did the world we live in become so cruel? The same people who abuse these innocent children are deacons and deaconesses in their churches. They pray, fast and cast out the devil but their hearts are as black as charcoal. Kindness towards someone's else's child is as good as sowing a seed for the future of your own kids. Do not maltreat people's children because what goes around comes around.
Early this year a Nigerian couple who live in the United States Of America were arrested and sentenced to seven months in jail and confinement for physically and verbally abusing their nanny who left Nigeria with the assurance of a better life overseas only to end up with the said couples and was being treated worse than a stray dog. The nanny usually had to work from 5:30a.m to 1a.m without a break, only to be fed with leftovers and also forced to drink milk that was left in bowls in which the kids had eaten cereal.

Why would another human being with a heart and blood running through their veins be so cruel to another human being? And in most cases, especially in Nigeria, people like this walk the road freely without the rot of the law.
We are all humans, your maid is your child too. They were carried in the wombs of their own mothers for nine months and came to this world the same way you came. They are humans so their hearts are as fragile as yours. The ill treatments and verbal abuse you use on them hurt their feelings and emotions. Please stop it. Let's make the world a better place.
Also my advice to everyone is that we should all try to report any case of abuse we come across with to the right authorities and let the law take its course.
