5 Take Aways from Mel Robbins

Have you ever heard of Mel Robbins?

Before we talk too much about her, I want to say this. I believe we can learn something from everybody. There are always takeaways, no matter if the other person's political, religious, or personal views match our personal philosophies. In fact, sometimes we can learn from people we don't like or immediately connect with.

That said, here are some valuable ideas that Mel Robbins promotes and make her worth paying attention to.

Idea 1 The 5 Second Rule

Mel Robbins dedicates an entire book and blog to this topic. The gist of this idea is that our minds actually sabotage or success if we wait too long. It's really fascinating and seems to have some solid scientific backing. It's a great read for procrastinators or those who seem to continuously talk themselves out of success.

Idea 2 Sleep is Important

Gotta say I love this topic! That said, when you read her analysis of the importance of sleep, it is far more than just "get enough sleep." She really delves into the science of sleep, how people are wired differently, and how to maximize one's productivity by getting plenty of rest.

Idea 3 Self Reflection through Journaling

Okay, so I have never had the discipline of keeping a journal. However, Mel Robbins really focuses on how the act of journaling can promote self-reflection, productivity, and goal setting. And considering one of her major premises for success is the idea that people never really feel like doing what needs to be done, I guess maybe I should take another look at keeping a journal.

All you have to do is Google: quotes by Mel Robbins and you'll find some pretty great stuff for any motivational poster. A concept I spend a lot of time on in my classroom is "grit." The willingness to do things we don't feel like doing really makes a difference in those who find success in meeting personal goals and those who don't. Ms. Robbins spends revisit this idea often, even though many of us might not want to hear it.

Idea 5 How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over
