You are inproving on multiple levels in your life and measure it by what matters to you the most. That's all a person can ask for.

As for other people, take this response from Rick and Morty, just reply by saying: "I'm sorry, but your opinion means very little to me."

Most of the time, I don't even say this to people. I think it. I don't have time to waste on arguing with someone how much I don't care for their crap. Lol. All I need to do is know where I stand regarding someone's opinion that I don't need or agree with.
