Why Writing Your Congressman Will Not Work

in #blogging7 years ago

Put down that pen... Stop typing that correspondence... We live now in a day and age where all the things we learned in history and civics class in high school is now OBSOLETE... Our nation once lived in a time where you could share your views with your "Representative." The only problem is there is no such thing anymore. Your "Representative" only thinks he or she is a "Leader," is free and unencumbered by your opinions and the Constitution of the United States of America.

Your representative assumes the role of a manager over your district (which usually make up a population of 710,000 people or more). He or she takes up the responsibility of representing your opinion. He or she is constantly weighing your opinion in decision making. He or she will be confronted with situations where they will have to face or prioritize the rights of your group over another (another = who is willing to pay for that opinion.. Like Monsanto...). In other words, your representative represents his or her own interests and the lining of their own wallets and purses.

Republican, John McCain (Wet-start Willie) - Has represented his constituents over the years be accepting over 2 Million dollars from the telecom industry alone.

To keep the left and right sides fair... Democrat, Ed Markey, has lined his pockets with over 1.6 Million dollars from telecom industry as well..

Enough ranting already... Let's keep on track!

With today's social media, every minute you spend writing your representative is a minute you will NEVER EVER Get back. You are fooling yourself into believing that you are accomplishing something when you are not...

Today when your representatives' office receives your letter along with thousands of other letters, the following happens:

  • The envelope is scanned (The from/return address is archived - so every time they receive a return address, they can count how many times you have sent correspondence)

  • The letter is removed by an aide to your representative.. Or moreover the aide to his or her aide...

  • The letter is scanned... during the scanning, key words are searched for to quicker aide the “decision making of that representative."

  • A computer generated reply is created based upon the template of the subject you wrote about.

  • The document is either signed with a digital signature... Or you may even get a hand signed (by a robot) reply.

  • Then your tax dollars are spent sending you a reply in the mail that never crossed your representative’s desk.

Even worse is when you go onto your representative's Webpage... Most people, after sending their concern via email or stating their opinion on their website will get back a reply within seconds... Like your opinion matters... At least you saved postage...
