It was a bright and clear monday morning making the room look whiter as snow as the sun peered continually in the four-squared glassy window made of thick bronze,air conditioners blowing profusely all through the night non-stop as Francis rolled over to the edge of the bed with his eyes closed,thinking Lilian,his wife was still asleep beside him as he caressed the bed gently he was on but wasnt there.The thought of the s-x they had lastnight made him feel much better becos he just returned from Mexico for a business trip yesterday and had missed his wife so dearly which made him lay with her,opened his eyes,yawned loudly before puttin a call to Jonathan,one of his friends from his android phone till he descended from the bed,stretched himself and did alittle press-up before enterin the large bathroom situated in the room n was made of gold to have a warm bath after all d stress he went through lastnight in pleasin Lilian,whom he knew should niether be in d kitchen with d cheves or with nanny Dee.

He wasnt in a hurry neither was he in a haste as he sat on the shinning-gold bathtub,washed himself gently,brushed his teeth before dashing out half-naked in a clean blue towel tied round his waist except his fresh broad chest and muscles showin forth as he cleaned up and dressed in an expensive red suit made in Dubai,polished-black shoes,silver wristwatch on his right and a black tie on his neck to match as he adjusts it by standin in front of the designed wall mirror,straightened the black t-shirt before wearin his red jacket makin him look exactly like a 35year old bachelor but was married to his lovely wife,Lilian with no children for so many years but hoped someday,God would look his way.He smiled becos as old as he was in his early thirties,both single and married women still trip for him and was never ceasing but didnt care less becos the only woman in his life was Lilian,he thought and smiled before leaving the room,thinkin probably she would be at the dining table,waitin keenly for him.

Fate’s machinery got into motion elsewhere that same monday morning,Rose,in the comfort of her small,unpainted and old-fashioned home in a low class of suburb of Ikeja,Lagos.She woke up as early as possible even before anyone else in the house because she knew customers would be waiting for her at the Asabe market where she sells fresh fruits and vegetables in order to make both ends meet since Thomas,her jobless husband wasnt helping at all and Mrs.Becky,her mother-in-law who steals and spends her money on alcohol and bet as she rushed downstairs to do her housework since there were no children to help around for she was barren for years and was living at the mercy of Thomas who brutally beats her mercilessly for no important reason since she was an orphan and was illegally married to him.she found nothing in the faded fridge nd sighed in sadness as she found only a thousand naira note in her brown purse n went out 2 buy bread n beancakes for d family unless she would be a punching bag that mornin.

Lilian waited for Francis,her dear husband at the large,designed and decorated dining table which was situated in a hall as he descended majestically through the tiled stairs and as the cheves,gardeners,butlers and maids includin nanny Dee,his childhood nanny greeted him in unison and answered before coming to me “good morning,handsome” “morning,baby,how was your night?”he asked smilin as we kissed ”its was lovely dear,come and eat before it gets cold”,pulled a chair for him and sat while i served his food on a glassy plate made of silver and watched as he ate,discussed about alot of things including my getting of a new driver till he was done and escorted him outside together with his bodyguards not after pecking him n told him to buy some apples for me which he promised to buy,watched n waved as the driver drove him out in his black pajero car before entering inside to prepare to go to my place of work too where i sell expensive shoes,bags n jewelleries made in USA with alot of employees.

Rose came back with the sliced bread n beancakes n met Thomas sittin on a worn-out arms-chair,smokin heavily n ignored her greeting “i’m famished,where is my food?”he asked in a harsh tone,giving her a stern look which made her scared and nervous as she gave him his food in peace and was about getting ready to go to work when he asked of his mother “and where is my mother?!”he asked in a cruel tone,gettin ready to punch as he sq££zed his fist in anger and was frownin at her which made her splutter in fear “i..i…i….dont know where she is,probably in her room…sleeping”,he glared real hard at her n hissed before resumin his smoking n eating.she decided to talk calmly to him about gettin a new job because its been 4months now n hasnt gotten a job yet n wasnt doing anything about it which made him flared up in hysteria,pulled her long dark hair tightly,held her neck tightly as she began crying n beggin for her life as he abused n gave her warnins not to meddle in his affairs again n left d house.

Francis got to his company where he sells electric gagdets like laptops,smartphones,computers,etc and had other branches in USA,Paris,Chicago and Japan,he even built 5hotels in Lagos and 5 in Canada also,he was wealthy and powerful but had no child to inherit all these,he already achieved alot of things in his thirties which made some of friends jealous of him,entered the company as all his employees greeted him,here and there while he either answered or waved at them as he sat in his spacious,well-ventilated and comfortable office with two bodyguards standing at the corridor of his office made of glass.the secretary entered,greeted him as usual before listing all his schedule for today and was made to sign alot of papers and award contracts to people who signed for it and told her to get red apples for his wife as usual which she promised to do later and left before his personal assistant,Helen came in,dressed in a blue body-hug gown,exposing her cleavage in other to attract Francis.

Thomas went to the bar with his friends to gamble,drink and smoke as usual,he was so poor,even poorer than a churchrat but didnt care less since Rose was working and providing for the family,he wasnt ready to look for work but had told his bestfriend,Oscar to look for one for him.Rose on the other hand,was having a bad day in her open shop due to what Thomas did to her earlier and her mother-in-law calling her a ‘barren woman’ for refusing to give her money which made her cry if not for Betty,her neighbour who consoled her,she was tired of everything and wished she could just run away,its was just too much and too unbearable,Thomas can never do without insulting or beating her a day while her mother-in-law was always on her neck and was ready to sU-Ck the living day out of her,sales was goin fine today but not everyday,customers came to buy from her but not everytime,she was about to have her lunch which was rice and stew that she brought nearby when her regular customer greeted her as usual.

Helen,his personal assistant greeted Francis,her boss in a romantic tone as usual while he answered coolly,its was obvious that she was in love with him even though she knew he was married to Lilian for so many years now with no kids,tried to get his attention as she stared deeply into his hazel eyes which was one major feature ladies fell for him with his other minor features,licked her lips at intervals as she played with her long-brown hair and was winking at him too but he didnt fell for that as she made to leave when he was done giving her instructions,swinging her curvy hips left and right but wasnt moved as he stared at her in disdain’Lilian was the only person he loves and forever will’he thought and resumed his work till daybreak when his friends,Jonathan and Desmond came to his office as usual not after putting a call to Lilian,exchanged pleasantries before putting a call to the assistant secretary since the secretary wasnt around for now,to get food for himself and his friends.

Lilian on the other hand was enjoying the company of her friends too in her huge office,Victoria and Susan,whom was the only person that has giving birth among them to her first child n expecting a second one,sooner or later as they discussed about their husbands,work and children.Rose smiled broadly becos she was expecting her since she was her regular customer,its was none other than Stella who came to buy red apples as usual “i knew you would come today,i’ve fresh apples for your boss” “well,itsnt for my boss but for his wife”she replied,smiling and sold for her not after giving her extra too which was specially for her and gave her a 600 note instead of 500 “thank you ooo,aunty Stella and help me thank your boss too,i’m really grateful,Miss” “i’ll do just that,thank you too ma’am”she replied and left before her eating her food which was already cold and ate it like that as she counted the money for today which was just 16,000 altogether n promised to hide the money from Thomas or his mother.

Its was now gettin dark as Rose packed the fruits and vegetables in a small room,swept the floor and dusted everywhere before biddin goodnight to other marketwomen nearby and left,she wasnt used to goin home late in the night as she boarded a cab and went home in hurry so as to prepare food for the family since its was her responsibility.Lilian on the other hand awaits her husband on the large bed as she flipped through the pages of the magazines she was readin till she heard Francis voice downstairs shoutin her pet name ‘Lilly’ in a romantic tone which made her rushed downstairs to greet him ‘oh baby,i missed you so much!how was your day?” “its was kinda stressful,sweetie”he replied smilin “eyah,i’ll do some massagement for you whether you like it or not” “no problem,baby,thats why i love you”,they giggled like kids as they made their way through the stairs,he had a warm bath,ate his supper before she did the massage for him,gisted for awhile and drifted up to sleep in a cuddle.

Thomas got home late as usual,smellin of whiskey and cigarette as he met Rose fannin his mother whom was already asleep on the chair in the sittin room.she greeted her husband as normal but he didnt answer her as he made it up through the stairs and went to the small,unpainted and tight bedroom he and Rose had been sharin for so many years till date,had his bath and came downstairs to eat on the faded dinin table.Rose left his presence;cryin,when she saw that he was now sniffin cocaine as always and at the same time smokin real hard,insulted her the more when she couldnt give him a definite reason for cryin but heavens knew its was because of his bad habits but kept it in mind so as not to generate another tug of war from him with just sayin her mind.He even wanted to slap her when she begged him to stop it due to his mother that was sleepin on the chair as her bed since they couldnt afford to buy one for her but she dogged it,went to the bedroom,said a short prayer before driftin off to sleep.

Everythin and everyday was goin smooth and good for the Macaulays family except for the fact that there was no child between them though Francis suggested for an adoption but Lilian refused,believin someday she would have a child of her own for him.His friends never ceased makin jest of him in his office for not havin secret lovers like them n were always pressurizin him to get one unless they would get one for him but has been declinin,claimin he was satisfied with Lilian but later decided to have a second thought n promised to do just that only if he was opportuned.

He never stopped sendin Stella,his secretary to get fresh red apples for his wife whom never stopped sendin regards of the fruitseller to him so as Helen,his personal assistant never stopped enticin him with her dressin and looks but still he never fell.He even recruited new members since he was financially buoyant and his popularity never disappeared due to the fact that he was a multiquadrillionaire and was an handsomest too.

Everythin and everyday worsen and gets badder for the Johnsons’ family most especially for Rose who get almost beaten everyday by Thomas and run errands like a slave for his Mother while Thomas had inferiority complex among his peers except Oscar;which follow him like a shadow nd led to frustration and resentment to his wife,Rose as he puts the blame on her for every failure that comes his way but never decreased his smokin,drinkin,gamblin and sniffin cocaine habits and his Mother too,Mrs. Becky was makin life tough for Rose by stealin her money to purchase expensive alcoholic drinks and cigarettes and disgracin her on street whenever she refuse to give her money for it,its wasnt that she[mrs. Becky] was jobless but hardly contribute to the growth and development of the family which made them remain at the same level all these years without progressin.Rose had no one for she was an orphan except Betty,her neighbor who helped her in one way or the other without Thomas knowledge for she feared him too

Days had gone,weeks had passed and months had flew,its was now the month of june.everything was still the same for the Macaulays’ family as Francis woke up late,had his bath and ate his breakfast before leaving for the office since its was a friday,not after pecking Lilian as usual whenever he was leaving for the office.Helen came to do her thing as she normally does but he wasnt moved niether was he touched as he snobs her alot.he ordered Stella,his secretary to get fruits for his wife as always but she forgot because she was busy throughout and apologised to her boss,Francis Macaulay for not going in time but he promised to take her with him when he was ready to go home since today was friday.his friends never stopped teasing him for not having a secret lover like them but he kept on talking about a low-class woman so that Lilian wont get angry and jealous since she was of the high class.they discussed about alot of things most especially their wives and politics.

Thomas was discussing with his friend,Oscar about him gettin a new job for him(Thomas) since his mother had been laying pressure on him which he promised to do as Oscar assured him which made his mind be at rest as they both resumed their smoking and drinking together in the bar alongside with their other friends.Rose on the other hand was having a bad day because she didnt really made alot of sales today as the money in her for the day was just 12k as she hoped Stella,her customer would come today because its was now evening.Francis’ car halted at a corner for Stella to alight;which she did n went to buy apples from Rose’s shop as usual but Francis couldnt recall her face as he removed his sunglasses from his eyes and realised that she was the one,its was Rose,his ex- whom he left 25years ago during their high school days as he became sad n felt guilty for everything,he couldnt control himself as he shook his head in pain for he thought she was dead according to what his mother told him in UK.

Francis couldnt get his mind off Rose as her image kept reoccuring in his mind.he even pretended as if all was well with him when Lilian asked,his face was moody throughout the weekend as he would found himself thinking of her but his love for Lilian never departed and decided to pay her a visit on monday.Thomas didnt have Rose time throughout the weekend as he sleptover on saturday at Oscar’s house,went to gamble on sunday while his mother was just attending parties she wasnt invited and would pack alot food inside a black polythene bag at the parties and bring it home for consumption most especially wedding and birthday parties.Rose never stopped praying to God for the fruit of the womb and would attend church programmes whenever she was opportuned because if Thomas were to be around,she dare not go out except she was sent on an errand by either he or his mother or off to work.everything was kinda rough for her because life wasnt smilin at her at all but was worsening it to.

Lilian never stopped going to the hospital to meet their family doctor to confirm if she was pregnant but was still negative though she and Francis were okay which was said by the doctor but she just couldnt conceive for now and never stopped hoping because she couldnt bear to adopt any child.Its was now monday as Francis went to work before Lilian as always,he even attended alot of meetings till daybreak when he decided to go to Rose’shop without Stella whom was suprised when he said he was gonna get the fruits himself for his wife.Rose was selling to customers here nd there non-stop since there were no helping hand till daybreak as she was about having her breakfast in the evening when someone stood in front of the table where the fruits n vegetables were placed,usin his body to shield the sun peerin into her shop,makin her sweat continually as she lifted up her eyes n behold,it was none other than Francis Macaulay,her ex- who left her 25years ago to study abroad which made tears dropped her eyes

Francis stared at her from head to toe while she did the same,standin,he felt pity for her because she looked bedraggled and unkept in her patched long brown skirt and faded black top but was still looking extremely beautiful and natural with her massive curves still intact as he walked up to her sluggishly,stared deeply into her grey eyes and embraced her tightly while she did the same with tears dripping out of her eyes while he petted her in his arms with those soothing words to comfort her.

Rose couldnt look at him becos she was shy n was speechless till he started “i’m sorry,it wasnt my fault,Rose,i searched for you,visited your village,tried callin you but couldnt reach you becos my mother told me you were dead which i didnt believe,i’m so sorry”he apologised as he held her hands into his,pressin it gently “no problem Francis,i can understand,we’re just two different people with different worlds so i get it”she replied in sorrow and shook her head in pain “so are you married?”she asked.

Francis eyes widening a bit becos he wasnt expectin her to ask such a question now,he didnt know when ‘no,i’m not married’ came out of his mouth as he stared at her lustfully,stylishly licking his pinky lips “so are you married too?”he asked,smilin,expectin the answer to be negative but was the other way round “yes,i’m” Rose replied,smilin so that he wont go on queryin her about her marriage becos she was suprised that he wasnt married as good-lookin as he was till now,she thought as she shook her head slightly,remindin herself in her mind that she was a married woman,married to d devil himself “are you hungry?can i take you out for lunch?”he asked,bringin her back “uh..erm…ah….dont worry,Francis,as you can i was eatin before you came or do you want to join me?”she replied,showin him the cold rice with less stew on it and with no meat which made him feel irritated and stylishly rejected the food as he asked for her phone number which she gave him and left,not after givin her 25k for her upkeep.

Rose counted the money Francis gave her,she didnt wanna collect it at first so that he wouldnt have the impression of her being a begger,yes!she was poor and contented as she sighed in sorrow becos she wished Thomas was the one that gave her that kind of money as she hid the money in her safe box where Thomas and his mother wouldnt know even though she had settled her debts and gave 5k to Betty for her help,remainin 10k.Francis was so happy today becos he met Rose but didnt tell Lilian who didnt know her and kept it to himself as he couldnt wait to see her lovely face tommorrow and couldnt help thinkin of her as he almost mistaken his wife for her.its not that he is in love with Rose but just felt the magnetic attraction brewin in him to her body.Oscar called Thomas that same day,in the night that he already found a job for him as a chauffeur and decided to go to the house for interview which made him(Thomas) happy and told his mother whom was happy for him without tellin Rose whom was asleep.

Rose woke up as early as possible,did the housechores,prepared food for Thomas with his mother whom was complainin that its was salty and watery,knowin full well that its was her money that she used in preparin everythin but ignored him,washed the plates and left in tears becos he scolded her bitterly.Thomas and Oscar entered the huge house,painted in orange and white as they passed by the gardens,starin at different cars of different sizes in the large compound as they greeted the gardeners and maidens before enterin the house and was welcomed by a maiden,settled on the black couch and waited for their bosses for awhile as they stared at everythin in the sittin room made of silver before a woman in her thirties,dressed in a yellow gown,wearin black stillettos and a makeover on her face which captured Thomas eyes as he stared at the woman from upstairs,descendin gently and was swingin her hips which took his breath away as she walked up to them “you must be Mr. Johnson,right?”.

Thomas couldnt say anythin as he stared at Lilian Macaulay,Francis’ wife from head-to-toe,she was so beautiful with the perfectly arching eyebrows,her skin was smooth and her long brown hair packed in a ponytail,he couldnt get his eyes from her as they both stared at each other.no doubt,Thomas was madly,truly and deeply in love while Lilian was glarin real hard at him becos of the way he was lookin at her that way “are you now done starin?”she queried “er…i’m….i’m so sorry ma’am”he shivered “whatever!you must be Thomas Johnson,right?”she asked “yes,ma’am” “married?” “no ma’am”he lied becos he was lost in her beauty as Oscar also pretended too “can you drive well?”she asked,frownin “yes,ma’am” “good!then you can start work tommorrow,pack your luggage along for you’ll be livin here and will be my driver,understand?” “understood,ma’am”he replied,smilin at her as she eyed,hissed n left,intentionally swayin her hips while catwalkin which set Thomas’ heart aflutter as he licked his lips profusely.

Francis visited Rose at her shop durin his break as he cancelled some of the schedule prepared for him that day,he even told his friends about her and advised him to woo her which he refuse at first becos he felt like,he was cheatin on Lilian but later accepted when they gave him alot of advantages though didnt have feelins for Rose but lust and infactuation.

they spent alot of time together at her shop,took her for lunch,bought her some few things and gave her money which she rejected at first but later accepted after much persuasion before proceedin to woo her but declined immediately,tellin him that she cant accept him becos she was a married woman and doesnt wanna cheat on her husband though he saw the love in her eyes but just couldnt accept him as he never stopped professin his love to her though its was fake becos what he wanted was her body to quench her sexual urge and really missed her body alot though never had s-x when they were still datin in high school but only smooches.

Thomas was so delighted as he asked about Lilian from Oscar who said he doesnt really know much about her as they gamble,drink and smoke among their peers with some pretty girls in bikini surroundin them as they merried and danced at the bar becos of his new-found job.Rose told Betty everythin that was goin on between her and Francis but advised her not to accept becos she said if Thomas find out,somethin else can go wrong since he was a harddened criminal which was true.Thomas has been arrested and charged 4times for different cases since he was a gangster and a gambler which led to his sack from work while his mother and her would always bail him out with their money.

though she confessed that she still got some feelins for Francis since he said,he wasnt married.Francis on his own,began to think of how he would lay with Rose since she was a sensitive and stubborn woman,he just cant help it,he lust for Rose’s body and was deeply and truly in love with Lilian,he was so confused.

Thomas got home that night,drunk and smelling as usual he met Rose sleeping on the torn chair,waiting for him “oh,Thomas,where have you been?,your mother and i have been worried which made me decided to wait for you here since she has slept” Rose explained calmly,rubbing her eyes gently with her hands as Thomas stared at her seductively,from head-to-toe, lickin his lips profusely as he stared at her in her red nightgown which was exposin half of her cleavage and was reachin her knee as he started movin towards to her slowly which made her move backwards becos she knew he was real drunk as her back touched the unpainted wall “i’m hungry”Thomas replied huskily “ah..er…i….i will get your food right away”she replied gently and was about enterin the kitchen when he grabbed her tightly by the waist while she struggled to free herself from him becos he was already caressin and kissin her neck when he whispered to her left ear “all i want tonight is you,Rose!!!”.

Rose tried yanking off herself from him but she couldnt becos he was stronger than her as she screamed becos he was already undressin her,she wasnt in the mood for that tonight as she struggled with him which got Thomas angry and landed her two hot slaps on both cheeks,making theirs run down her eyes as he tried strippin her nightgown but she refused which made him pulled her hair tightly and held her neck as if he want to break it and led her to their bedroom though Rose was beggin for her life but Thomas wouldnt listen as he threw her roughly on the bed,makin her cry the more as he off his clothe and jumped on her,ready to devour his wiff as he brutally tore her nightgown,held her wrist tightly to the bed and began kissin her wildly,down to her cleavage till he had s-x with her.Lilian told her husband about Thomas,her new driver who promised to see him 2mao though she has been wonderin why he(Thomas) had stared at her that way but didnt tell Francis becos she felt she could handle him alone.

Rose couldnt move becos she was already weak and tired since he forcefully had 2rounds with her lastnight as she stared at him in pain and sorrow,bitin her lips and cryin as she watched him(Thomas) pack his luggage becos he said he was tired of her and want to move on with his life as a single and said becos she was too old-fashioned and borin for him as he packed his shoes, bags,clothes and some other things that belonged to him remainin some unwashed clothes.he promised never to return to the house again and abused her bitterly before leavin with his mother supportin him as she helped him out with his luggage and left.Thomas didnt tell Rose about his new-found job becos he didnt want her meddlin in his business as he sat on the couch in the sittin room of the Macaulay’s masion and await his bosses though he had his own plans for the family which will affect Lilian,most especially apart from he and Oscar’s plan which was for him to keep a close eye on Rose,his wife

Lilian came downstairs with Francis whom was already dressed up in an expensive blue suit and was prepared to go to work “good morning,sire!good morning ma’am”Thomas gesticulated as both men shook hands,smilin and was about shaking Lilian who grimaced at him before proceedin to introduce Francis as her husband and Thomas as her new driver,they discussed at length till they finally agreed to pay him 60k per month plus 20k for weekly allowance which made Thomas thanked them continously though Francis was nice enough but his wife was indifferent.

Lilian introduced him to every staff in the house before having his breakfast and drove Lilian out of the huge compound in her white camry car but he never stopped starin at her through the rearview mirror and was lickin his lips profusely,he didnt know why he was like this becos its was the first time in his life he will get attracted to a woman like this though Rose was beautiful and natural to the extreme but was never attracted to her

Francis went for seminars and conference meetings before having a break with his friends as they discussed about Rose,he described her to his friends as they hoped on seeing her though Helen was tryin to distract them as she kept on enterin Francis’ office and goin out without doin anythin reasonable though she had been overheardin some of their conversations but didnt seems to understand becos they were usin coded language.Rose went to work late due to the weariness in her as she explained everythin to Betty who felt pity for her and made her breakfast before she left for work but was havin a sad day becos no customer hasnt buy anythin from her since mornin as she became worried and depressed,worried becos she hasnt made any sale and depressed becos Thomas,her husband as left her though she missed him alot and couldn't stop nursin Francis’ love becos she felt he still loves her after all these years as she wiped her tears with a white handkerchief and blew her nose continously in sorrow.
