4 ways in which prolonged sitting hurts us
Did you know that prolonged sitting causes the appearance of varicose veins, but also makes the bones weaker? If your work is on a desk and requires you to spend most of your working time seated, the following lines may cause you to think about why it is important to make frequent breaks in which to move.
Suffer brain, neck and shoulders
When we move, our blood circulation is normal, which means that enough blood and oxygen reach the brain. This helps us keep our thoughts clear, concentrate.
On the other hand, when we sit for a long time, blood circulation slows down, and the flow of blood and oxygen to our brain slows down, which disturbs our thinking process.
Also, for those of you who work with a computer, prolonged sitting also loads the neck, vertebrae. In addition, if the chair on which you sit is not comfortable or your posture is incorrect, load the shoulder muscles.
Problems with the back
One of the most common problems associated with prolonged sitting is the pain and tension in the back and waist we are experiencing during work. When the body moves, the gentle discs that lie between the vertebral vertebrae in the spine are expanding and shrinking, reaching them with blood, nutrients.
Sitting causes collagen accumulation around tendons and ligaments. Prolonged sitting is particularly contraindicated for people suffering from lumbar disc herniation.
Muscular degeneration
When we sit for a long time, we do not use our abdominal muscles. If we do not train them regularly, they are not tight. Tightened abdominal muscles can reduce the risk of trauma in the lumbar spine. Also, when we are upright and standing, our spine has a natural curve approximately in the shape of S.
Sitting may be a reason to lose that natural flow and cause problems with sciatica, disc herniation and others. Last but not least, overall flexibility is diminished, but the back muscles are more relaxed, which may make it difficult for us to spend more time.
The other bodies are also affected
Another reason not to sit is that this increases the risk of heart disease, colon cancer, stomach upset. The body synthesizes more insulin due to inactivity and delayed blood circulation to the organs.
Over-secretion of insulin also results in weight gain, which contributes to the development of diabetes and obesity.
