Filmography & Acting Career

2007- 2010: Debut and Initial Success

Ranbir Kapoor debuted in 2007 in the movie 'Saawariya' playing the role of a tramp. The movie flopped big time, but critics praised Ranbir's performance stating that he has got the quality to be a star some day. Ranbir was then seen in Yash Raj Films production, a romantic comedy 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' in the year 2008. The movie achieved success and his performance as a womanizer was appreciated.

In the subsequent year, Ranbir was seen in a coming of age movie 'Wake Up Sid'. His mature and nuanced performance in the movie won him lots of laurels and the movie went on to become a sleeper hit. In the same year, he was seen in a slapstick comedy 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' which went on to become the fourth highest grossing movie of the year. His final release of the year was 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year' in which he gave an honest performance. In each of these movies, he kept raising the bar as an actor and evolved as one of the leading young actors in Bollywood.

In the year 2010, Ranbir was seen in two movies, one a multi-starrer 'Raajneeti' and the other a comedy drama 'Anjaana Anjaani'. In the former, his performance received mixed reaction, but the movie went on to become a superhit. However, the latter was moderately successful and his performance was simply ordinary.

2011- 2013: On the Ladder of Success

In the year 2011, Ranbir Kapoor was seen in a musical drama 'Rockstar' where he gave one of the best performances of his career. The movie received mixed reaction from critics, but was unanimous in praising Ranbir for his sheer dazzling performance as a rockstar. In spite of getting mixed reaction, the movie went on to be one of the highest grossing movies that year. In the following year, he was seen in a romantic comedy drama ‘Barfi!'. His role was that of a mute and deaf man where he pulled a Charlie Chaplin to the T. In some of the scenes, he manages to bring out emotions in us without even having dialogues. This shows the quality of his performance as an actor. It was top notch to say the least. He continued with his success streak in his next release ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' in the year 2013. He was paired again with his ex girlfriend, Deepika Padukone and their chemistry was such as if nothing has happened. The movie proved to be Kapoor's third consecutive commercial success and one of the highest grossing Bollywood movies of all time. At the fag end of the year, he was seen in the movie ‘Besharam' along with his parents and the movie was a disaster at the box office and Kapoor's worst performance ever.

2014- Till Present: Commercial Struggles

Continuing with the failure of his previous movie, ‘Besharam', Ranbir was seen in the 2015 movie ‘Roy' and ‘Bombay Velvet'. Both movies were a disaster at box office. At the end of 2015, Ranbir was again paired with Deepika in the movie ‘Tamasha'. Their chemistry looked good, but that did not save the movie. Although, critics were fair with Ranbir's performance, the movie couldn't do much business at the box office.
