Vlad, the last confession
As this is a blog dedicated to reading, literature and recommending books, I start with an enigmatic one that will make them go crazy, I hope so, as happened to me.
Unlike what many may think, it is not the epic fable Bran Stroker told us about the iconic vampire of Transylvania. What Humphrey tells us is a compilation of carefully linked stories about the life of Vlad the impaler, bloodthirsty murderer of the middle ages, real stories and legendary real-life legends researched and written with all truthfulness without omitting detail
The story is set in 1504, when the young Vlad, along with his younger brother, were handed over to the Turks as a peace treaty, where they were educated and trained under the culture of these aliens, taught their languages, their battle methods , the reading of the Koran among other things. Being Vlad so rebellious to the Turkish culture for the memory of his father and older brother, he was subjected to innumerable tortures which caused him to be born in an insurmountable hatred of his enemies the Turks, causing the young Vlad to swear revenge. All this plus the countless betrayals on the part of his comrades, created in vlad a bloodthirsty man who knows no mercy. It is certainly a book that catches you from the beginning, although I warn you have to have a stomach to finish it.
What fascinates me the most about Humphrey's story is its perfect writing, its arguments in the dialogues and its detail in describing each scene as barbaric as it was, the fact that he himself traveled to the scene and personally knew the castle makes that describes in detail all the scenarios and makes the reader travel there, you really feel moved. Do not imagine that they will get vampire stories because there are none. instead, the real and bloodthirsty story of this story will leave you with your mouth open, 100% recommended.
