The perfect family risks to crumble because of desire.

Just the thought of betrayal let resentment plant his seed in the relashionship between Fridolin and Albertine, the two main characters.

The story told by the Austrian writer runs between dream and reality often making it difficult for the reader to understand the difference between them and leaving him in a sort of dreamlike limbo.

Can the only idea of an adventure - not even consumed - be able to undermine the perfection sought after from the couple? Where does reality end and where does the dream begin?

From my point of view Schnitzler's kind of writing perfectly summarizes the passage
in style between 19th and 20th century. Schnitzler mantains all the elegance of 19th century writers while at the same time he introduces the simplicity and speed of the following century.

The great Stanley Kubrick inspired himself from Schnitzler’s work in making his wonderful screen adaptation: Eyes wide shut.

La famiglia perfetta rischia di sgretolarsi a causa del desiderio.
Basta quello e la sola idea di tradimento a piantare il seme del rancore che crea una svolta nel rapporto fra Fridolin e Albertine, i due protagonisti.

La storia raccontata dallo scrittore austriaco corre sul confine sogno/realtà spesso impedendo al lettore di capire la distinzione fra le due lasciandolo in una sorta di limbo onirico.

Basta la sola idea di un'avventura, nemmeno consumata, a scardinare la perfezione tanto cercata dai due coniugi? Dove finisce la realtà e dove inizia il sogno?

Lo stile di scrittura di Schnitzler dal mio punto di vista sintetizza perfettamente il passaggio stilistico fra '800 e '900, Schnitzler infatti mantiene tutta l'eleganza degli scrittori ottocenteschi ma con la semplicità e la velocità del secolo successivo
Da questo libro il grandissimo Stanley Kubrick ha tratto Eyes wide shut, meraviglioso adattamento cinematografico dell'opera di Schnitzler
