Coditany of Timeness is the first ever-black metal album that was created not by man, but by artificial intelligence as a result of self-study. The music was not very impressive, but still better than most human groups. Therefore, in this area the AI will soon finally surpass us. The most important thing: it is quite possible to listen and even get aesthetic pleasure.

A few years ago, two undergraduates at Northeastern University of Boston became friends against the background of a general interest in neural networks and music at the same time. Tellingly, after graduation, one of them became a producer, and the second - a researcher of artificial intelligence and a programmer. The first one is called Zack Zukovski, the second one uses the pseudonym CJ Carr and, having already graduated from the university, they decided to return to the old dream - to unite music and neural networks. The result was the DADABOTS project, the goal of which is to create self-learning artificial intelligence, which itself, based on the melodies of meat machines (that is, people), will be able to create something unique.
As a result, we managed to first create an album that terribly parodies the hits of Beatles (affected by the "Uncanny valley"), and now also the first black metal album invented by the neural network. In addition, it came out pretty well - at the level of the middle group. Taking into account the fact that they took a really not particularly remarkable metal band as a sample, the result exceeded expectations.

The basis was taken from the 2011 album of the New York group Krallice, Diotima. The compositions were broken into the smallest segments and the resulting compost was “fed” to the neural network developed by them. Initially, in the learning process, her task was only to learn how to predict the next segment. As a result, 5 million iterations of AI from DADABOTS managed to create 5 tracks, which became the album Coditany of Timeness.

The most remarkable thing in this story is that the "soulless" neural network was able to go for real creativity. It may seem to us that its essence is much more complicated than the accidental comprehension of swallowed fragments, but this is not so. It is the chewing of old material, reflection and the issuance of something new on its basis that constitutes the essence of creativity.
