I hope all of you are fine and doing great. Today I'm here again to be a part of this amazing course "SLC S21 Week 5 - Herbal Remedies for Respiratory Health, Iron Deficiency, and Blood Pressure Control". We are learning new knowledge about different herbs and their specific role in the cure of different health issues.

Let's move towards the task.

Write three different herbs for the support of respiratory health other than discussed in this lecture. Include their benefits and reasons why they help in respiratory health.

Some health benefits of thyme in terms of respiratory health are as follows:

1. Relieves Congestion :

Thymol in thyme's essential oils turns out to be a natural decongestant and exectorant. This will keep the congestion under control and also clear the mucus from lung cavities by loosening it.

2. Cures Coughs :

Thymol and other constituents with antimicrobial properties can make this effective against bacterial causes of coughing just like viral; anti-inflammatory properties reduce inflammation and soreness in the throat.

3. Soothes Bronchitis :

Thyme is an expectorant, thus helping to loosen up and clear out mucus from the lung, which is beneficial in relieving bronchitis; its antimicrobial property might help fight the infections that lie beneath.

4. Fights Asthma :

It may lower the inflammation caused by the disease and airway constriction with its anti-inflammatory property, thereby acting as a natural additional cure to manage the disease.

5. Eradicates Respiratory Infections:

The antibiotic and antiviral compounds of thyme may enable one to combat such infections that are likely to affect the respiratory part of the human body, which include pneumonia and tuberculosis

4. Anti-Infective Properties: it fights against infection attacks of the respiratory system thus causing reduction and longevity of ailment

5. Relieving Symptoms of Asthma: it relieves symptoms associated with asthma. It lessens the symptoms of asthma that also include swelling.

Why Eucalyptus is Beneficial for Respiratory Health :

1.Eucalyptol: The eucalyptol acts naturally as an anti-inflammatory compound and reduces inflammation in respiratory tract.

2. Anti-Inflammatory Compounds : It contains limonene and alpha-pinene that reduces inflammation and swelling within the respiratory tract.

3. Expectorant properties : loosens mucus from the lungs and expels; therefore, helps pacify the cough and reduces conglomeration of chest.

3. Mucolytic Properties: The mucolytic action of licorice root helps break down mucus, thereby promoting its expectoration and relieving congestion and cough.

Following are three herbs from the kitchen that may help to alleviate iron deficiency:

1.Coriander leaves:

Coriander leaves or cilantro very common kitchen herb, are a rich source of iron and gives several benefits related to iron deficiency.

Coriander leaves contain about 1.77 mg/100g leaves, making them a good source of iron. Its regular r consumption may reduce iron deficiency and anemia.

2.Improves Iron Absorption:
Vitamin C is v helpful for the absorption of iron in the body. Since it contains iron and a good amount of vitamin C, this helps in the proper absorption of iron into the body.

4.Antioxidant Properties: Coriander leaves contain antioxidants that help the body by combating oxidative stress and inflammation related to a lack of iron.

2.Parsley :

Parsley is an herb with a lot of nutrients, which proves advantageous for health on account of iron. The advantages of parsley regarding iron are discussed below.

Parsley is a good source of iron; its regular consumption can help iron deficiency. It contains about 3.7 mg of iron per 100 grams of leaves.

2.Improves Iron Absorption:
Vitamin C helps improve the absorption of iron in the body. Therefore, it helps in iron absorption in the body.

4.Supports Healthy Red Blood Cells:
A good amount of iron in parsley helps support the production of healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body.

it will be responsible for the protection against the oxidative stress and inflammation of the body caused by iron deficiency.

Basil is rich in iron, vitamin K, and antioxidants. Vitamin K in basil aids in blood clotting promotion

Basil is a good source of iron,its regular consumption can help irondeficiency,contains about 3.5 mg of iron per100 grams of leaves.

2.Enhances Iron Absorption:
Vitamin C helps in increasing the absorption of iron within the body. So, it helps iron absorption in the body.

4. Supports Healthy Red Blood Cells: Good amount of Iron in parsley helps support the production of healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body.

5. Antioxidant Properties: Oxidative stress and inflammation of the body caused by iron deficiency may be protected by regular consumption of basil.

Herbal remedy to raise iron level

Here is a simple herbal recipe that incorporates the iron-rich qualities of these herbs:

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon fresh parsley leaves

1 tablespoon fresh cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon fresh basil leaves|
1 tablespoon honey (optional)|
1/2 liter water|

  2. Add the water and let it boil at low flame for 10-15min
  3. Filter the tea and discard the solids.
  4. Enjoy to taste with honey added.
  5. Drink 1-2 cups in a day.

  1. Parsley and cilantro both are rich in vitamin C that enhances iron absorption from these herbs and other dietary sources of iron.
  2. Basil and cilantro has antioxidant that reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, improving iron absorption and utilization.

Kitchen Herb Usage to Normalize Blood Pressure:

1. Add to meals:
Flavour meals with them; fresh or dried herbs can be added, to your meals, for example basil for pasta sauce and cilantro for salsas.

2.Tea: Steep fresh or dried herbs in hot water to make a tea. Strain and drink 1-2 cups a day.

  1. Soups: Add into soups, such as garlic in chicken noodle soup or ginger in vegetable soup.

Remedy For High BloodPressure

This remedy works most for me and is my favorite remedy for blood pressure management is cilantro tea with lemon. This tea can actually help reduce inflammation, relax the blood vessels, and lower blood pressure.

Ingredients:

1 tbs fresh leaves cilantro
½ tsp lemon juice

2 Cup boiling water{

Making:

  • Take water in pan and boil it.
  • Steep the herb in boiling water for 5-7 minutes. * Strain,add lemon then drink 1-2 cups a day.

Remedy For Low Blood Pressure

For liw blood pressure ginger tea is very effective. We can take rosemary tea,salt water ,lemonade for low blood pressure.

Ingredients:

1/2 inch Ginger
2 cups water
Honey optional

Making:

  • Take water in a pan then boil it.
  • add sliced ginger to water and cover the lid.
  • steep the ginger forv5-6min.
  • Stive it and enjoy this drink 1-2cups daily
