My thoughts My Takes: Fear

in #burnsteem25last month (edited)
Introduction

I had a long discussion with @the-gorilla where we talked about the spontaneous and robotic nature of the platform.
Thinking about it I believe there is more to authors than just some engagement challenges and contest. All these hinged around some requirements which hinders the author from showcasing his/her full potential.

It is with this that I have decided to take to my own blog and start sharing my own ideas where I don't have to do anything to please some community mods and admins but just share my gift of knowledge.

The aim is not to gather votes, booming, curator or 01 acknowledgement but to gather an audience who will be interested in my coming to my blog each time they come online.

Fear

The Latino community brought this topic out this week for their engagement challenge and I participated in it. Not only that I have taken time to read many entries and I must say I found some interesting things that I never knew.

I found out from a reader that she is scared of heights but she loves the view from high buildings and she most definitely lives on the 11th floor of a building. What an irony.
Another user claimed that her psychologist said the reason why she is claustrophobic is because when she was a baby in the womb she overstayed her 9months and almost killed mama when she went upwards towards the lungs instead of downward. That it is her fear of space that made her want to leave.
How can a baby with no memory carry such fear till adulthood. Funny right!

I could go on but I may end up boring you.

I believe fear is something that's natural and everyone has it no matter what. Reason why I disagree with another author who said he has no fear in life. Like wtf, how can you not have a fear in life?
I'd bet that if you put that guy in Ukraine or any of these war torn countries he'd shit his pants at the sight of massacre.

We all have fears and we eventually outgrow some. Like me, I used to be afraid of the dark. I couldn't sleep alone in the room. This made me wonder if I'd ever be able to live in my own. I used to have this funny thought that I won't move out to stay alone until I am married and we move out together to start a family😂😂😂. But look at me today, I can sleep in a dark room and sleep sound.
P/S: I can't sleep in a dark room if it is a place I am not used to. I'll be scared and uncomfortable.

Others we find it hard to outgrow, till now I can not stand the site of a surgical operation. If I come across it maybe on social media while scrolling, my body immediately reacts. It feels as though they surgery is being carried out me. I have difficulty breathing.
This would not have been a problem for me but I am aspiring to be a doctor.

Advantages of Fear

I believe it is good to be afraid. It is the fear of robbery that makes us to be sure we have locked out houses.
It is the fear of failure that makes you struggle hard to be successful.
Fear keeps us at an alert. I have a friend who is always scared of anything online and this has served her from many Ponzi schemes that would have taken her money.

Disadvantages of fear

I'll start from the last advantage I listed. That my friend has also missed out of many money changing opportunities because of fear. She couldn't earn from notcoin and many other opportunities because she was afraid it was a scam.
Too much fear makes you miss out on things.
My sister was once afraid of eating chicken because she saw it being killed. Imagine the delicious protein she missed.
Fear makes you live a life of unfulfillment.

To fear or not to fear

With the above listed you come to wonder. What do I do. Should I be afraid or should I be bold and fearless.
Well I believe in balance.

Balance

You should have control over your fear and should not let it control you.
If you are afraid of something approach it with caution. If it is something that you can overcome then by all means do.
Do not be too bold like that my friend and claim that you do not fear anything.

That will be all from me until next time.

Phew I don't have to end it by inviting three people to participate 😁.

It's such a shame your first tag is #burnsteem25 and you didn't take advantage of the main purpose of your content. Small detail though - I suggest prioritising your tags in order of relevance to your content!

What a downer to start with eh? But you'll have seen my initial reaction and you get my praise for breaking away from the herd. I really hope that you get the acknowledgement you deserve for this.

I completely agree with everything @jaynie's said. I won't duplicate my reply so a tag will do.

There will be times where a contest will trigger something - much like @jaynie says where she'll be writing about something and then think "oh, that's another post right there" - it's nice for that to happen. It's just a shame when by the end of the post, I've forgotten what it was.

In your comment, you said:

I have been chasing votes and recognition and this has killed any personal talent I could have or nurture.

This is also so true. You can genuinely see the different between posts that are written for a steemcurator and those that have been written with passion.

@jaynie - I've been wondering why you do 2 curation projects and not just 1? Personally, I like @theluvbug brand more.

But I believe steemit is evolving and we will surely get there

... it is and we will! I have no doubt!

The destination being a round-trip to where things all started 😉

Any advise on the tags prioritisation.

I am very open to learning. Thank you @the-gorilla

I am actually I bothered about rewards now.
I just want to share my knowledge, polish it and become better.

Doesn't mean I won't participate in community contest but I will not leave my blog alone.

You know the blog category was for authors to post their own writeups but I came to think it was mainly for resteeming contest post.

The 1st tag is the most important (as this will be picked up and given importance by search engines and will be displayed on your blog), so I'd probably have chosen #fear. Then you can think about the key points that you're trying to get across. Perhaps things like #freedom #expression or something along those lines. I'd save tags like #steemexclusive or #burnsteem25 until the end.

Beautiful
I used this on my second post.
Thank you very much.
I appreciate

Thinking about posting just on your blog, your visibility is limited to people who search for tags and existing followers. Which is probably very few users. It’d probably be better to decide what you’ll write about and find a relevant community. Still post with the freedom that you are but knowing that it’ll be more visible there. If you get a reply rating your post, I’d choose a different community. Or reply with a rating of the quality of their comment 🤣

That last part is something I'd definitely do. Thanks for the heads up.

This post caught my attention very quickly @zekanem and I am glad it did! - For very good reason too :)

In an amongst the blurb of my rather lengthy post earlier this morning - I made a very brief (completely off topic) mention of the community contests and/or initiatives... and though I did not really get into any of my thoughts in that post, because it is not what it was intended for - I did stop for a moment and think to myself "I wonder if this is something I should write about separately".

A couple of hours later whilst curating content from my @steemitbloggers account - I came across this post just after publishing and refreshing the feed - so I actually switched back over to my personal account quickly so that I could respond to you more personally :)

I agree 100% with your thoughts on this matter!!! like 100%!! I think the idea or concept of actively giving people content topics and inspirations to write about is a wonderful idea - BUT - all the rigmarole which is attached to it is not only tiresome but it makes it all seem so utterly monotonous!!!!

To my mind, this sort of thing should be utilised as a content "foundation" for those that are very new to the concept of creative / public writing. It should be used to give them basic guidelines and a little dose of confidence... but most importantly, it should encourage and nurture creative growth!

And that is precisely where the wheels fall off!

It doesn't! It has (probably unintentionally) created an almost "rigid" like approach to something which should be anything but! There are formats - not only for the content layout but for the titles too (which is just utterly ridiculous because it makes them all so damn cumbersome!), there are RULES and "tag" obligations and then Q & A formats which honestly are enough to make ANYONE fall asleep at the sight of them... even if the content IS actually readworthy.

I seldom curate many of these posts - with the exception of a handful from writers who you can clearly see, DO actually use their own initiative along the way.

Basically, I just feel like the communities which use this approach should perhaps consider creating "levels" of some kind in their discord servers or somewhere (wherever they gather) which encourages people to start taking off the training wheels once they reach a certain point of confidence in their writing.

Try creating your own titles - get creative! Stop using the Q & A formats, but rather start learning how to "answer" those questions in a format which is a cohesive and enjoyable piece of reading. Change up the paragraph breaks/section titles... you know, do something of your own on Canva or just leave them out because let's be honest... they are so absolutely tired and they make every single post looks the same!

I could go on - and this probably is worth a post... although this comment is about the length of one already haha!

Anyhoo, I think it is AWESOME that you have decided to spread your own wings and communities should do the same in terms of sensible structure and growth! It would be Wonderful to just see people's natural creativity coming forth, rather than repeatedly telling me what time they brush their teeth every day.

@jaynie I checked out your profile and found I was following you and I remember there was a time you created a very long post. Till date it's the longest post I've had to read on this platform, hopefully I beat you to it soon.

I am glad you found my post noteworthy, you know all the while I have been chasing votes and recognition and this has killed any personal talent I could have or nurture.

And after looking back and finding out it had taken me nowhere I have have decided to do what I love so that the fire doesn't go off.

You know I have spent the last couple of minutes going through the selections from @steemitbloggers and I commented on how they were able to make such wonderful selection. Now seeing you are the one behind it and I do not need answer to my question anymore.
I also appreciate the resteem I got from the account, it is very encouraging when you decide to step out of the box and someone at least cheers you on.

The contest and engagement challenges have been a robotic affair. It is like a high school exams of sort. Those guidelines are supposed to be part of the main post not the main post itself.

But I believe steemit is evolving and we will surely get there.

Thank you once again.

Till date it's the longest post I've had to read on this platform, hopefully I beat you to it soon.

LOL @zekanem it was probably my Sourdough post... or maybe the one about the blog ideas - who knows, I talk too much most of the time haha!!! So I will add - that longer is not always necessarily better - but I am just prone to waffling :D

And after looking back and finding out it had taken me nowhere I have have decided to do what I love so that the fire doesn't go off.

This is the best decision you could have made. and with absolutely NO disrespect to ANY of the communities, their admins, moderators or participants - because what they do can often be a thankless job too... and I DO have respect for what they do, I just feel that like writers - their ideas for guidance need to evolve too... but yes...

But I believe steemit is evolving and we will surely get there

... it is and we will! I have no doubt!

Yes it was the blog idea post.

Cheers

all the rigmarole which is attached to it is not only tiresome but it makes it all seem so utterly monotonous!!!!

YES! THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS!!!!

I'll read the rest of your comment now 🙂

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.

All these hinged around some requirements which hinders the author from showcasing is full potential.

BOOM!

I'll read the rest of your post now 🙂

Thank you
I appreciate
