Business Tip #3: 7 Things To Get Used To [An Owners Guide To Not Screwing Everything Up]
Lessons I've learned along the way, so you don't have to.
Hello Steemers,
Welcome to my third post. If you are looking for the BEST business content, how to read and analyze your market, write the perfect business plan and steps to properly make your first million, YOU HAVE COME TO THE WRONG PLACE. Instead, I will teach you things I've learned along my way to get where I am now. Things that if I would have done right the first time or would have known, would have shaved days, months, or even years off my journey. Along with a ton of headaches!
Things To Get Used To #1: When leading a business, you will have officially become a Professional Problem Solver
Yep, that's right. Every minute of every day in the office, you will be either resolving a current problem or solving a riddle to a future problem. Imagine taking a test in school, and having to get every question right or there would be consequences down the road. Pretty much the life of a business owner, but in this case, there's no failing or skipping class.
#2: If you don't do it, no one will.
Your entire career as a business owner your friends and new aquantainces will throw out the good ol' "must be nice" when you tell them you're a business owner, and that you make your own hours. Sounds amazing and easy doesn't it? Well it is amazing, but its definitely not easy. Probably one of the most difficult things you will ever do. However, very rewarding at the same time. But what your friends don't understand, is that as a small business, your work and tasks add up quickly. Skip 1 day, and that list of things to do just got doubled, and repeat. Basically the more your business grows, the more work you will have to put in. And if you don't do it, who will? Get ready for a full plate and laugh every time someone says "must be nice".
#3: You will start to learn where your priorities lie.
Daily you will face the obstacle of having a full, endless list of things to do, with no order to do them. Naturally, you want to the fun things first, with as little stress as possible. But as more time goes on you realize this is completely backwards. You will learn to prioritize your day doing the important things first, then everything else second.
#4: Speedy Gonzalez
You will start getting little tasks done very quickly, 2 times faster than all of your employees and the average person. You will package faster, do paperwork faster and problem solve less important tasks faster. Not because you're any better then anyone else or more skilled, just because you have so much on your plate, you won't want to waste your time doing them.
#5: People will ask for freebies, daily.
You will get flooded with people asking for free things. At first, you will be a nice person and give away your products as friendly jesture to friends and family and donate your products to every person throwing an event. Then you'll start realizing that all of those things you gave away, added up to a major sum by the end of the year and all came out of your own pocket. Consider setting up a friends and family discount program so youre never moving backwards.
#6: Waking up is hard to do.
Every morning I face the same problem. GETTING OUT OF BED! I personally hate mornings and love to sleep in. This is where you will need a ton of will power!! Since you are your own boss, you have no one forcing you to be at work at a certain time and no one holding you accountable for time management. I struggle with this daily, but you will realize that the later you start work, the later you will end it.
#7: The more you procrastinate a task, the harder it is to do.
Putting off a task is an easy thing to do, I do it often. You should see the stack of papers on my desk and all of the emails that need responses. What you will eventually learn, is the longer it takes you to reach into that stack of papers and emails, the harder it is to do that particular task since you ultimately have to relearn whatever it is your doing and problem completely forgot about whatever subject it is. Prioritize and do the difficult things your not to familiar with first, otherwise your going to be for a long day!
Ok, this article should have said 1,000 things to get use to. Looks like Ill have a part 2 coming up shortly.
