"Defense News Top 100" was published yesterday by Defense News magazine, based on the previous year's defense sales and accepted as the world's most prestigious defense industry list.
There were 4 Turkish firms including ASELSAN, TAI, ROKETSAN and Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc (STM). On the list were ASELSAN 55, TAI 64, ROKETSAN 96, and STM 97.
For the first time STM entered the list, ASELSAN and ROKETSAN both climbed.
How did Peki Aselsan get born?
The Cyprus Peace Operation has put the country very hard. The US embargoed it. There was no such thing as the Turkish defense sector because we had our backs on NATO in the period before. Everything was getting outside Turkey. Not even a radio was built. The nationality of the communication system is finally important. Especially in military operations. In the Cyprus campaign, it was not possible to get the desired output from the radios.
The effect of communication weakness was noticed. On top of that, Aselsan was founded in 1975 as a "radio and communications" company. It's been a long time. In the following years, production began in technologies such as electro optics (night vision) and radar. For the development of these technologies, the Defense Industry Executive Committee gave Aselsan the task of becoming a technology center.
Today Aselsan is the only Turkish technology success! That may create an impetus for a stronger Turkey starting right here in the future.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TODAY?
Now Turkey should establish its own model of success. This is not a project, but an obsession that must be owned by every individual in society.
In 2018, every model that will provide the development of countries is a source of science and technology. This new model of success that will build the future of Turkey, supported by a strong science and technology innovation system. This innovation should be to bring the state, the business world, academia and investors together, the only aim of this system!
