What are things I needed to know to earn through affiliate marketing?

I host a Q&A segment on Quora to help entrepreneurs and startups get their business questions answered fast. This week a ton of people asked me questions.  I hope this answer helps anyone who is trying to get into Affiliate Marketing. Here's my best advice for this question:

Here are the top 3 things you need to know to earn through affiliate marketing:

1 - You need the customers to come to you. Create a lead generating page promoting a discount offer for the product / service or a simple form asking for name and email to get more information. When they have opt-in for this information its more than likely the offer will convert because they’ve given you permission to market to them.

2- If you choose to promote on social media ( you need to build a following or invest a ton of money into advertising on other channels ( influencer programs or promotional sponsorships). If you have a page that has only a small amount of followers, its unlikely that a couple posts a day will be visible enough to rake in HUGE commissions. This can be a short or long road depending on what method you choose to promote on social media.

3- You need traffic to the offer. Most affiliate programs don’t want you to drive direct traffic to their link. You need to promote it through your own blog, your own landing page, your own social media accounts.Many people making money in affiliate marketing are creating how to videos, video reviews, or invest a ton of time on their blog / content creation. They then pay to promote their blog, social media, or landing pages to get the most traffic and convert these offers.Lastly, don’t give up. It takes time to find the best promotional method that will work for you.
