Create an App for your Next Event

Ever sign up for a 5k, 10k, 8 miler, Half or Full Marathon?

If you have, you may have had to sign up through a form online.

Typically, I have found that organizations whose main focus is solely to get people to come to the event have poorly designed online forms.

Bad Forms:

  • Disorganized List Choices
  • No added styling*
  • Not Mobile Friendly

* All webpages have default styles. So this just means that they didn't take initiative to add their own creative spin.

After having filled out many online forms for races, I felt inspired to create my own.

I've partaken in the Hokie Half Marathon, and as a Virginia Tech Alum I felt it was suitable that I design a mobile application where you could sign up for their half.

This is just an idea for what I had in mind, but my idea behind this design was to create a User Interface that would be clean, orderly, and easy on the eyes; motivating you to sign up for the Hokie Half! Creating a good User Experience adds value not only to the user it is intended for, but for the organization as well. If a user has a poor experience filling out a form, they are inclined to leave and not return. This could impact the amount of people signing up for a race and lose it's promotion as well.

However, if a user has a good experience, they are more inclined to share with a friend or family member more about the race and encourage them to check it out!

While "Content is King", it is only as effective as the experience someone may have receiving that content.
