I live in a place where owning land is a big deal. However, most people buy land so it can appreciate in value after years. Thee land lays bare and sometimes, squatter move in. Our parents used to farm as a side hustle to put us through school. However, our generation feels that farming. is not sexy enough and ll want to be the next Zuckerberg.

The majority of farmers are over 60 years old and in the next few years, they will not have the energy to produce anymore.
Why are young people not seeing the opportunity in that? Why are we not seeing the value we can add to farming as young people backed by technology?

In Kenya, we have a start-up called Herdy. You can download the app and order meat cuts from it. They work with farmers who read animals and butcheries across Nairobi. In 24hrs, you can get your cuts at your door step. Did he have to go tob the farm and rear the animals? no.

We also have a start up that has made greenhouse farming better. with the use of technology, they can help you farm better, their app reminds you on when to water the plants, when to spray etc. Are they in the agriculture sector, yes. are they in the farms, no.

What i am saying is, we need to see where we can add value, even when we feel the sector is not sexy enough for us.

In my opinion, i feel there is a great opportunity for young people.

Vale Addition.
