Change of Plan - Business Journal (Entry #2)

Ebay

I'm changing up my business plan as I've kind of hit a bump in the road with my eBay store venture. It just isn't as profitable as I thought it would be after I got hit with the amount of fees that eBay charges.

eBay fees are pretty high when selling technology products. They charge 8% + listing costs which is around $1 for products under a certain price. The only way you would get any money with what I'm selling is by ramping up at higher prices.

A few times I have sold an item and didn't account for shipping cost. The item was listed as $2 dollars with free postage because I thought that postage was $1 but ended up being $2, I posted it anyway. I didn't end up making any money that day.

Website

I've been (slowly) developing a website to replace the eBay store. I've cut a few corners by integrating bootstrap into the html. Most websites these days use bootstrap these days so don't call me a 'script kiddie'. I've spent hours trying to perfect the header of the website to my liking. It's coming along nicely, the next step is to learn more about payment systems, I've been told to use paypal but if I do that I'll have to register my business to get an ABN which is free but you have to pay to register the name, also would have to apply for the paypal business account.

Should probably make a to-do list and a schedule to be more organized so I can properly execute changes, I'm usually all over the place or get hit my The Dip (which is a book by Seth Godin)

As effort reduces, so do results. The dip could be applied to many thing like motivation or challenges.

The biggest problem I face has got to be depression, it comes and goes in short waves, there are days in a row were I'm completely unmotivated to do anything then there are days were I'm pumped and ready to get some work done, hours on end.

You just have to change your mindset or get out of the peasant mentality as some call it, one way I get out of this mindset is by watching inspirational people on YouTube or by reading books. There are some great books out there.

Do what I want, land of the free!

Keep at it mate. And come hang out with us on Discord more often.

I totally get the dip. I deal with this sometimes too.

Registering a pay-pal business account sucks major balls. I set one up once but it took a while to get there. I no longer use it.

If you want an easy website solution, Shopify is pretty damn simple. You can also enter some simple code to accept Steem and SBD as payment. And there are also options for accepting other crypto as well which is awesome.

The only thing to keep in mind there is that Shopify charges about $30 a month after the free trial. So you need to factor that into your costs as well.

There's also a cost per transaction if you use Shopify payments, which I do. I didn't realise this until recently. It isn't a huge charge but if your profit margins are low then you'll feel it.

The positive is that they have a shipping calculator which works pretty well plus some other applications that you can use to make your store nice and pretty.

If I were you, I'd check this out. I did a post about all of this recently so check out my recent posts.

Thank you for the support.

I've thought about using Shopify, I'll probably end up using it if the website doesn't fall though in the future. I don't like how you have to pay a monthly to use the apps like the Australia Post one and some of the other good applications aren't available in Ausrtalia yet.

I'll be sure to give that post a look.
