Why Do We Tend To Invent Things In Order To Avoid The Important? Ways To Master Your 'Inner Procrastinator'

I believe success is achieved by ordinary people with extraordinary determination. - Zig Ziglar

What actually keeps us away from being straight and determined is our own head.

We all know these situations: While we could go straight towards the goal, we discover ways on how to distract and distance ourselves from the original target.

It's quite easy to lose track when we're open to any possible distraction.

Here's how we can get rid off that procrastinator inside ourselves!

Master your inner procrastinator!

That's probably easier said than done.

I guess all of us know these circumstances. Whether we're in a business or private life situation, there's a high probability of inadvertently getting distracted from our original path. Sometimes we're not even aware of it until we suddenly find ourselves doing something completely different from what we had originally planned to do.

Think about an upcoming job interview for instance.

While we may be preparing ourselves with regards to the content of the conversation anticipating the questions we're supposedly going to be asked and possible answers, we eventually start to think about the right outfit to wear and begin to select various combinations of garments to then end up tidying up our wardrobe.

Now that we're already far away from the original project, suddenly the idea of a new hair cut - which could also considerably improve our appearance during the job interview - crosses our mind. So we pick up the phone in order to make an appointment with our hair dresser.

Apparently, some inner voices tried to suggest that with the interview in mind we should primarily focus on the impression rather than on the message. Instead of following our original idea of effectively working on the preparation of the appointment, we listened to the procrastinator inside ourselves and stopped being efficient.

As some of you who are constantly following my blog might know: I'm a huge fan of the entrepreneur Sam Ovens and his business strategies. Now it's him who has a great advice for us in this context:

Listen to your inner procrastinator and then see what activity or task it's pulling you away from. Whatever it's trying to pull you away from, that's the actual target you should work on. - Sam Ovens

Listen to these distractive voices and let them guide you to the real target!

It's us who are our biggest time killers.

The next time you end up tinying your wardrobe instead of preparing a business appointment, remember my words :-)

And now enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for the article...so identify! I've found that scheduling my day very specifically i.e. breaking things down into 15min chunks with specific goals gets me rolling. Try to plan the day the night before and then nail it...always feel great!

Great approach! I do that, too - even on the weekend. There are people who think I'm crazy, but I enjoy efficiently using every 15 minutes of my life :-)

THINK - see the end, know your goal!
FEEL - listen to the guy within, do you feel like doing this or not, this is where the procrastinator speaks
ACT - This is where you make a decision! To do or not!

Thanks for those words marly - Think Feel Act - Its been making sense and still making sense!😉

I know. A friend of me provided me with that formula a couple of months ago, and it probably changed my life :-) It works for every approach in life. I'm glad it works for you as well!

And i noticed that it doesn't work rearranged.
For instance if we feel first, most often then forget to think, leading to irrational decisions
Or gets our decision clouded(emotional centered) instead of it being principle centered which comes from thinking first!

With the invention of the internet and social media, it becomes almost impossible to be a non-procrastinator. But when I come across these insightful articles, I suddenly hold the lost path and start following it. So keep on sharing and training us my iron lady.

Yesterday, i invited a friend to discuss about investments that we will do together, 1 hour later we found ourselves drunk and planning for summer vacation. Focus is like smoking. If you don't inhale it, it goes away and disappears in seconds.

Haha, I've had these type of "business meetings", too :-)
Sometimes it's hard to be straight. Life is full of tricky traps you can walk into whenever you want.

Look at all the enthusiastic procrastinators who were blown away by your talk but haven't commented yet! They probably will tomorrow...

was that a smart one...may be... only smart people wud no... i ain't one tho :p

Hahahahaha!
We bring today, tomorrow!
Says the procrastinator 😂😂🤣🤣
Hehehe thanks for this @nonameslefttouse

You mean "fun" by saying traps i think :) Talking business is no fun. Planning vacation, playing games, drinking.. These are fun and will get you nowhere :P

Lol. We've all been there..
There have been many group study sessions that have gone like this for me. Maybe next time something like this happens, I'll remember this post.

awesome writing as usual! :)

btw.. elephant post is up! :) Check it out when you get a chance.

Aaaaaw the elephants, I'll jump over NOW :-)
Thanks for your positive feedback!

I think it is much easier to do nothing then to commit to the hard work required to do something meaningful or productive.

People invent things because they have to!

People that invent things, look at the world with the constant thought of "Why the hell, does it work this way? Can I make it better?"
Usually, they cannot control themselves. Solutions start running through their mind and occasionally they will scribble something on a piece of paper or run a search in google to see if anyone found a solution already.

Though some will do it for the money, most do it as an impulse. Some inventive people I know would give their ideas and concepts to whoever can materialize them for free, just for the feeling of fulfillment

determination and the hardship is the key of success just set the goal ☺ nothing is impossible and no question are without answer,
just believe in it..

Life is indeed a lot of things that we have to face. But we have to know which things we have to deal with and which ones we should avoid.
