Actual Speed Vs Potential Speed In Life and Business.
On the dashboard of a car, you can see the reading of the car's speed (mph). The actual speed is the current speed of the car whilst it is been driven and the potential speed of the car is the maximum speed the car can go i.e how fast it can go.
In business and in life, We all have an actual speed and a potential speed. In this post I'll be explaining and putting perspective on them to help you better understand and make use of this concept.
Actual speed is how things are for you right now, your current situation: steady job/income, business running smoothly, almost the same daily routine etc. Basically, it's how things are going and you not getting tired or bored of it. If you're unhappy or feel stress about something (a pothole ahead, perhaps?) you don't allow yourself to be bothered by it because you're comfortable with how things are.
Potential speed is how things could be if you make some changes and have the willpower to implement them. It could be as simple as upgrading your skillset, acquiring new tools, building connections etc OR not so easy as quitting your job and starting a business, expanding your business into new markets, starting a self care practice like hitting the gym. Potential speed is what/how life and business will/would become if yoy bring in your A game, unleashing the giant inside. Michael Jordan making himself one of the greatest NBA players is an example of harnessing potential speed.
Going back to the analogy of the car. When you start your car, the actual speed goes up and the more you drive the higher it goes . Then it hits a plateau, steady speed.
No matter what you do starting will always be the hardest because it requires the most effort. Many people reach the plateau phase but they stay there. Never going beyond it. They have the potential to go faster (harnessing potential speed) to get at the destination early but they never use it. They never bring in their A game. Actual speed is akin to a mediocre life.
Imagine if you could get that body you want, build a thriving and successful business, freedom to travel the world and have an amazing spouse. That's just some of the things that are possible when you harness your potential speed.
So how do you harness your potential speed?
That's what the next post will be about.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
