PRESENT IDENTITY
Text: “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord; walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8
One of the greatest deliverance in the life of a believer is when we begin to see ourselves exactly the way God sees us. If we have a contrary view to what God sees and say about us it will be a struggle to walk in the reality of the new creation man.
Before salvation we are described as “darkness,”*that’s a description of a life that is influenced and controlled by the works of darkness. Darkness is the identity of everyone that is not born again. It’s a life that is darkness – it has no bearing with God and no connection with divine purpose. But as soon as a man or woman is born again the unusual takes place. And these unusual is transferring identity with Christ in which old things pass away and all things become new.
“...Ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light...” So now we are light. This is the true identity of a believer. We can as well say “We are light.” Jesus also clearly declared that we are the light of the world. Our lives are so strategic to the operations of this world. *Light is designed to shine – that is the purpose of a believer.
Built into us at new birth is the ability to shine and be a reflection of God on the earth. There is a shine in every one of us as believers. With this we can walk in divine purpose and be a positive influence in our sphere of influence. As we shine other people will begin to find their direction in the shinning of our lives.
Light doesn’t struggle with darkness. It can never happen that light is coming and darkness refuse to go. I cannot be struggling with darkness; wherever we go we just shine. We are not struggling about it; it’s our identity. We shine in good works. We shine in the purpose and plans of God for our lives. We shine as we carry the light of the everlasting gospel of Christ.
DECLARATION:
I am light. I shine in the midst of darkness. Built into my spirit is the ability to dominate darkness. I shine in good works; I shine in righteousness.
