You missed the whale experiment where whales had chains put on them and suddenly the minnows mattered in the math.
The general consensus on steem is that linear rewards were a mistake.
Golos is about to waste a bunch of months figuring that out for themselves.
Returning to the n2 with a voting cap of 100mv on the whales lets the minnows matter in the math and appears to be the solution.

I had hopes for golos taking over with better code, but now they screwed up and enabled reward pool rape.
The n2wasnt perfect, but with a cap on voting weights it at least discouraged self voting and voting good content.
Without the vote cap, it is a money grab by the richest.
