Trailer

When I first watched the trailer to the anime I was so hyped to watch it. Horror anime is one of my favorite genres. And let me tell you, it was exactly what I hoped to be. But, the trailer doesn't even depict half of the wins that this anime has to offer.

Another first started out as a mystery horror novel of the same name, published on October 29, 2009, by Yukito Ayatsuji. I have yet to read the novel but, I have heard that the anime and the novel are about the same. After the success of the novel, it sounded like a perfect idea to make an anime out of it. So, that's where Momo Studios takes over the scene and goes straight to work.

The first episode was aired on January 9th, 2009 on KNB‎, ‎KBS‎, ‎Tokyo MX‎, ‎CTC and continued for 13 episodes in total ending March 27, 2012. There is an OVA (Original Video Animation) published last year of the airing of the anime. It received very positive reviews:

Kōichi Sakakibara finds himself transferring to Yomiyama Middle School. While meeting a girl named Misaki Mei, he discovers a mystery of the class he was enrolled in, Class 3-3, that has been happening since 1972 where students die of senseless and gruesome deaths. It is up to him and his group of friends to found out what causes this calamity and how to stop it.

My Thoughts

The first half of the show drags a bit but totally makes up in the second half. The unfolding and the suspense of the second half really kept me on the edge of my seats. The main storyline keeps a consistent rhythm and doesn't break loose. The art and animation still are well done, not being to simplistic while at the same time not being too over-detailed. This show is really good for character development, giving each character the right amount of depth to them, making each one of them likable and rememberable. Overall, a really good horror novel adaptation.

Would I Recommend This?

If you are into the horror anime scene, then, yes. Amazing for the horror genre and just an amazing anime in general. If you have the patience to watch a kinda slow show, please check this out and other animes that have a buildup, you won't regret it.
