Facebook's new scandal: 14 million private users became public 'public'

in #busy7 years ago

Facebook is failing to issue information and personal privacy issues, it is one of the most appealing debates in contemporary times. The new controversy came to an end without the spark of debate. In a statement released on June 7, Facebook said that due to a software error, 14 million users of private posting settings had become a 'public' post instead! In this incident, again the question of Facebook's information-security issue has been questioned.

Details of the incident

From the statement, it is known that around 14 million Facebook users have kept 'Friends' in the privacy settings of Facebook posts. That is, no one else could see their posts outside the friends' list. But for Facebook's own technical error, the 'Friends' post becomes 'Public' post, which means anyone can see those posts without logging in. As a result, these information of 14 million users is open to everyone outside the friend's room. Posting automatically changed the privacy to the posts, the posts were marked 'Public' icons. But those who have set the 'Friends' default by default and always post private, the 'public' icon naturally avoids the eyes of those users. That is, a large part of the users did not know that their post's privacy was violated.

How did this 'error' happen?

This error occurred during the trial of the new method of sharing pictures and other feature items in the user's profile from May 18 to May 22. Incorrectly the developers set the privacy of all new posts 'public' instead of making public the featured items. On 22 December, Facebook Private Posts enabled to automatically stop the process of posting 'public'. But to get back to the previous settings, that is, 'private post' makes it more than 5 days. Facebook did not even know how they discovered the existence of this error, and how and with certainty they say that the number of victims is effectively 14 million!

Meanwhile, Facebook's Chief Privacy Officer Eric Egan said, "Those who had suffered at that time, we tell them from today that they are asking for their reviews about the matter and the post they made at that time." Egan asked for forgiveness at the end of the speech. But the Facebook authorities did not want to apologize for the past few months!

Today's previous scandal in Facebook

The biggest information technology scandal in the country since its inception in March. When Presidential Candidates used to campaign for Digital Campaign for Trump, Cambridge Analysis, a political consulting firm, tracked about 87 million users of their personal data, Facebook On 5th March after the complaint, Zuckerberg wants to apologize to all Facebook users on March 22. The share price of Facebook shares dropped 8% and the market value of $ 4,600 million! The British Parliament is summoned to him. In the same context, Zuckerberg was summoned in the US Senate on 9 April. Zuckerberg thereby apologized and promised to take necessary measures to make Facebook more secure on security of users' information.

Shortly after this incident the new debate was born. Last week, the Times reports that Facebook has allowed mobile users such as Apple, Samsung and Huawei to access their personal information store in their users and friends. Chinese mobile builder Huawei's name binded with the main problem Over the years, US Congressmen are seeking accountability for Facebook.

Facebook losing confidence?

According to the survey of Panamon Institute, an independent organization working in securing personal privacy and information, people's confidence in just about 66 percent of recent negative news on Facebook has come down.

According to Norman Sade, co-director of Carnegie Mellon University's Privacy Engineering program, Facebook has already had trouble with the image on security issues, and has been able to stand it out. But what is happening in recent times may be due to permanent misuse of users towards social media. Facebook added several new security controls on the site as a solution to the problems. Even a full leaf has just opened for privacy and security settings! But that page is ### also 'confusing', said Said.

At the end of the statement in Facebook, it was said, "We are fully aware of how we create products, how they use your information and how unexpected outage arises - in the matter that we need to be more transparent." It is also said, "Since we are trying to solve that problem before such problems, then users can get more such platform notifications in the next few months."

What is the end of the reader? Facebook may not have a lot of users in the effort to get the confidence back, but is it unable to become helpless in times of repeated failures and security of Facebook? Is the future of social media becoming uncertain? Keep asking questions. What to do now, refrain from sharing some of the super-personal or sensitive things in social media.
