TEACHING

In a recent event, a student of the education career interrogated me about questioned about the relevance of one's pedagogical work. I must confess that the question and the uncertainty of the young person impacted my consciousness as a teacher. Certainly the fragmented science only manages to systematize and interpret a part of reality. It is also true that ancestral knowledge resides and remains in the heart of the people and the practices of cultural resistance have generated knowledge that science is just beginning to recognize. But these truths can not hide, nor make any teacher or professor doubt the enormous responsibility he has in the classroom with regard to teaching.

In the educational relationship, both the teacher and the student learn, but the teacher must know how to teach and for that, professional readiness is vital. When a parent, a mother or a citizen takes their child to a classroom, they want the child, adolescent or young person to learn and that the teacher has sufficient expertise to teach, in the midst of the diversity of characters and developments. Consequently, the most beautiful task corresponds to the educator, that of accompanying groups of small citizens in the adventure of learning to learn, discovering to systematize, knowing to do and undertaking to transform.

As I answered that young student, I now say to everyone who has doubts that Teacher is the one who teaches and knows how to teach. Teacher is one who makes the knowledge-hope combination his dynamic axis to help multiply consciences that, from different professions, contribute to the construction of a democratic, just, egalitarian, independent, sovereign and solidary country. Teacher is who learns every day, like Simón Rodríguez, that freedom and teaching are the same word in a tone of humanity.
