WIND
Winds are important to habitats as they cause water current and waves and also carry rain bearing clouds. In Nigeria the winds influence the climate with the dry harmattan from from the Sahara causing a cool dry season and the rain bearing south Westerly wind from the ocean causing a humid rainy season. The winds are therefore partly responsible for the local biomes in Nigeria. The are responsible for the climate and vegetation of mountainous region with the windward side being wet with luxuriant vegetation and the leeward side dry with sparse vegetation.
Winds help in the dispersal of fruits and seeds and cause pollination in some plants especially grasses. They are thus partly responsible for the distribution of strong winds cause high transpiration rates. This affects the kind of plants that are found in regions exposed to such winds.
