Sunset at Convict Ruins on Maria Island
The days I spent on Maria Island were amongst my favourite days of my bicycle trip through Tasmania. Maria Island was established as a convict settlement in the 18th century and has been uninhabited since the remaining farmers left the island in the 1940s. Today, Maria Island is a national park without any vehicles and impresses with beautiful nature and an abundance of wildlife - perfect for cycling!
