In an interview published in the Sydney Morning Herald, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple will not make one operating system for Mac and mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad, contrary to widespread rumors. Here's an exact quote from Cook:

"We do not believe that we should throw one for the other. Both the Mac and the iPad are incredible. One of the reasons why they are incredible is that we made them do what they do very well. And if you merge them together, you will have to go to deals and compromises. Therefore, perhaps, the company would be more effective if it did so. But it's not that. You know that you are giving people something that helps them change the world, express their passion or manifest themselves creatively. Therefore, the merger, which many people say - I do not think that users need it. "

Earlier this year, Bloomberg launched rumors that Apple will soon introduce tools for developers that will allow them to deploy applications simultaneously for macOS and iOS. Applications that target both platforms can be used with a touchscreen or mouse/trackpad, depending on which device is started. And although Cook made it clear that there will be no merging of platforms, applications that support compatibility with macOS / iOS and do not require a single operating system.

However, this quote can clarify Apple's plans to develop its own processors for at least a few Macs that will replace Intel's chips - another rumor based on the Bloomberg report. Many believe that if Apple makes its own processors for the Mac, it will build them based on ARM, to bring the macOS and iOS a bit closer. Cook clarified that the company does not have any plans for their rapprochement.

But that does not mean that Apple will not turn to the ARM. She has many years of experience developing ARM chips for iOS devices and there are serious obstacles to the advancement of the x86-64 architecture, with the exception of the unlikely acquisition of AMD. Therefore, everything can be.
