Introducing Another Gaming Platform On Steem: Janken
Of late, we are seeing a few different gaming applications showing up on the Steem blockchain.
The first two were dice games which seem pretty popular. A couple of the projects are promising more games over time.
Today, we have a third. It is @janken and it looks like it is up and running.
I readily admit I am not into games of chance but this is a new one on me. The game is a take off from the old Rock, Paper, Scissors we played as kids. This time, it is turned into a digital format where online betting can take place.
With this game, one can opt to bet against Janken or another player. Both options are available although, depending upon the activity, one might have to wait a while until someone else takes the bet.
The games allows players to wager either STEEM or SBD. It is rather straight forward with a MVP design.
Here is their write up with full details.

Their website:
Games like this are appearing on Steem. It is good to see developers choosing this platform to build upon. This is on the heels of @magicdice and @steem-bet.
Speaking of the later, they announced they are 7 days from release. Their system will go live on February 13th.
One of the big questions people had was who is the company who is behind this? Their original post was vague. This addressed it in this post although without much clarification.
SteemBet is owned by an Asia-based gaming business and we are working with a team who have experience developing a few top 10 betting games on EOS. Due to legal reasons we can't disclose the identity of team members.
That explains a bit. They are an Asia-based gaming company that, according to their first post, has millions of users. Now we find out they have a few top games on EOS. Nevertheless, we still are not allowed to know who they are.
Perhaps this is on the up and up. We will know in a week what the deal is.

The fact that I am not into games like these does not dispel my enthusiasm and excitement over them joining the Steem blockchain. This is a wide open network that can house all kinds of different applications. I believe Steem is one of the best blockchains out there with a strong community that keeps growing. It is very encouraging to see developers attracted to this network and building on it.
Games of this nature also have a way of garnering a great deal of recognition. If some of these teams keep expanding the games they offer, it ultimately could alter the course of the online "casino" world.
One advantage they have is they can, through their own token, provide incentive to players to use the platform. What is offered, once the exchanges are fully developed, are digital assets that can be traded. This is a bit different than traditional casino tokens.
We just keep expanding.

Gotta wonder when Steemit Inc pulls the plug on gambling apps because of legal issues in the United States. They’d still be available using other ways to use the blockchain of course.

Steemit doesn't actually have the ability to stop it. They can only stop the information from appearing on steemit.com. Even then, the logistics of that kind of censorship might not be viable. Nothing stops someone from making a new account.
Seems like @thedarklord doesn't even mind they got banned. All the other front ends still display their content.
Yeah, I grok that. When I said pull the plug I only meant doing something similar to what they did with thedarklord.
I feel like they have a lot less incentive to take that stance. Gambling is a much more nuanced grey area from a legal perspective; Especially peer to peer gambling.
Hopefully it's around the same time the Steem community pulls the plug on Steemit Inc...
Why would Steemit Inc need to pull the plug on gambling applications?
It is not responsible for what goes on the blockchain. The blockchain is decentralized so non of that is within the authorizes ability to control. As for the individual apps, are they even located in the US..most likely not. And I am sure their hosting is done outside of there also.
Steemit acted in the case of @thedarklord and I can only assume they did so for CYA reasons.
Isn’t most online game of chance gambling illegal in the United States?
There was a difference with that situation. The information that was being posted was being uploaded onto Steemit's servers (actually AWS since they rent them). That is where all the pictures and videos (along with text) go. The text is sent to the blockchain and those posts can still be read. Any pics and videos associated with it are gone though.
The gambling games we are discussing are not one Steemit. Other than announcement posts, these games have nothing to do with that company. They are operating elsewhere.
As for the online gambling, I am not sure since it isnt something I am not into. I am sure it enters into jurisdiction problems and an assortment of other things. But again, if it is, that is not Steemit's problem since it is not offering that service. In that instance, it would be yours or mine if we partook.
Yes but the gambling apps are not on the Steemit UI...
Can we have a game with no chance?
I wish we have a game like slither.io where you use your steem to play and the bigger you are you earn points till you reach a goal. You can use your points to play more.
Is it possible?

I really wish someone could make a prediction market on steem not that would be amazing.

Are these games on the steem platform or just accept steem to gamble with. Just wondering how integrated they are on the platform for no other reason then curiosity.
Magic Dice is on Steem. This one appears to be. Steem-bet I think is since they are issuing a token but I could be wrong. We will see what kind of token they go with.
My sense, even if it is a multi chain app, the STEEM based betting will be on Steem.
But that is just a guess.
I am with you that these games are not my cup of tea but if they can continue to demonstrate the flexibility and potential of the ecosystem, it could drive engagement and growth for demand which is great for other developers to recognize the opportunity to build more Dapps here.
