Red flowers

in #cactilast year

Red flowers are usually pollinated by birds as red is most attractive to the avian eye. There are no hummingbirds where I live and I notice that these cacti don't set seed, probably because there are no suitable pollinators Most of these are Rebutia family. The bottom one is a Peanut cactus

Gorgeous! The little miniature clumping cacti have the most spectacular flowers

I'm a major fan of these little species, sadly the second one from the top died on me with the weird cold rainy weather we've been having

El Nino scares me but La Nina has been hugely problematic for the succulent garden. I'm working on getting a greenhouse up

The spectacular flowers almost make up for the annoyance of handling them

That's the major attraction of these tiny clumpers, they aren't injurious

The hooked ones are the worst!
