IBG Interview - 7 Questions With... Callis Blue

in #callisblue7 years ago

Every artist out there is trying to set themselves apart in the crowded independent music scene. You need to take what makes you unique and run with it. Share it with your audience and welcome them into your world. One artist that seems to get this is our recent find Callis Blue.

We had the chance to catch up with the rising rapper and get a little backstory. Enjoy the interview here:

Where did the name Callis Blue come from?

Back when I was a kid I would create characters in video games and call them Callis I don't why I just liked the ring it had. I just added the Blue because I really like the color.

How would you describe the music you are making?

The music I make is to vibe out to it's something to put on during parties or car rides with your friends. I give off a somewhat angry but still chill vibe that anyone can mess with.

Who have been some of your biggest musical influences?

Some of my musical influences have to be Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Metallica, and a lot more. The list goes on and on it ranges from rock bands to rappers to pop stars I'm all over the place.

Tell us about being a Mexican-American rapper in the South Florida hip-hop scene?

Being a Mexican in the South Florida rap scene is kinda tough because I feel like we have to do a lot more to get attention. Rappers like Kap G and King Lil G have even talked about some of the issues.

What is your songwriting process?

The way I write songs I put on beats I vibe out to them for a bit and the words just come to me. I know what I'm gonna say right then and there just by listening to like 30 seconds of the beat.

How do you hope to connect with your listeners?

I want my listeners to see me as not just a rapper but also as a friend. I'm a regular person just like them if they rock with me I'll rock with them.

What advice would you give to other artists trying to make a name for themselves?

Keep pushing forward don't take peoples hate personal just keep doing you. Everything will turn out good in the end.

What is next in the plans for Callis Blue?

My first mixtape "Blue Line" should be out by December. I plan to keep working hard all this year. I'm going to start doing features with other artists and just getting my name out there. I plan on doing my first show by the end of next summer but for now, I'm just gonna keep grinding it out.
