The government has decided that the private universities will not be able to enter their permanent campus, they will not be able to enroll any more new students.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told the decision on Sunday to implement the 'Private University Act-2010' in a press conference in the education ministry.

On July 18, the 'Private University Act - 2010' passed in the parliament. Later, on August 18, in a meeting with the representatives of Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh, the Education Minister asked private universities to agree to the permanent campus.

In view of this, the association asked for more 15 years to go to the permanent campus on 22 November and allotment of land from the government for permanent infrastructure.

Nahid said about this, "Private universities under the Private University Act-192, every private university got temporary permission on five acres of land within five years to build their own infrastructure and on condition of going to the permanent campus, but now they want more 15 years to go to their permanent campus under the law, Which is unreasonable, unrealistic and unacceptable. "

If the government does not allocate land, private universities will not be able to go to the permanent campus - she said about the association's claim, "It can not be conditional and it is not realistic and also lawful."

The minister also said that the students admitted before September 2011 will have to finish the ongoing course.

In this case, these universities will get additional five years from the present time to go to the permanent campus, he said.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Nazrul Islam said, "These universities have been divided into five categories on condition of going to the permanent campus, of which only eight universities have been able to go to their own campus."

He said action would be taken against the 43 universities not to fulfill this requirement.

But in the meantime, more than 10-15 universities will be able to fulfill the condition.

Professor Nazrul said that according to the 1992 law, those who have not yet met the conditions for the permanent campus will have to fulfill those conditions.

"Under the Private University Act 2010, more new universities will be allowed in January, which will be able to start their education campus campus," he said.

According to the 2010 law, new universities will be allowed to go to the permanent campus within seven years. So far 42 applications have been submitted to the education ministry.

The UGC chairman also said that some of these universities have already been searched - those who get temporary permission.

"The government is not making any distinction between government and non-government organizations, but we want that the students can participate in the fair education program, so the university authorities must fulfill these conditions," the Education Minister said.

He complained that most of the private universities are running their education program in the low-rent rented house beside the busy street, hotel-restaurant and CNG stations along the busy streets of the residential area. To ensure the quality of education, these universities must fulfill the criteria.

Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said immediate steps will be taken to monitor the transfer of permanent campus.

According to the government decision, the universities, which could not go to the permanent campus, will not be allowed to operate any extended, additional campuses and institutes. Also, new faculty, departments and programs will not be approved. They will have to run the program till the time specified in the current facilities.

It was informed at the press conference that due to the existence of many private universities in the capital, prioritization of universities outside Dhaka would be given priority. Currently, 51 universities are running educational programs with temporary permission. Out of the two, the time of going to the permanent campus of 49 universities in five years has passed. The universities are: University of Hope and East Delta University.
