The DOJ was buzzed yesterday as they announced the end of a four year long operation that concluded in the largest civil forfeiture in US history. They claim to have seized "hundreds of millions" in real estate equity invested in by Chinese drug cartels and human traffickers growing pot for states like New York, Georgia and illinois. Sounds like those states need legal cannabis.

Michigan Republicans might be trying to use the Green Rush to stop the Blue Wave that is coming in November, particularly if legal recreational cannabis is on the ballot. As we have reported on The Week in Weed, when cannabis is on the ballot, weed wins and brings out young voters.

Haters gonna hate, even in Oregon. As a lawsuit threatens not only the long time legal status of the beneficial and revenue raising plant in Oregon, but ALL the legal states, and efforts to decriminalize cannabis on a federal level.

Start spreading the news! The medical marijuana megalith MedMed is taking Manhattan, with a presence in the corporate capital, getting ready to be the Starbucks of the corporate cannabis space,

And after a worker in Canada was fired for smoking cannabis on a break, a court has ruled that he must get his job back with no ramifications and back pay. Weed Wins! Don't Take My Herb, Man!

CBS 13: Sacramento: Authorities Seize About 100 Pot-Growing Houses Tied To China-Based Criminals

According to The Sacramento Bee:

"In the largest operation of its kind, federal agents swept across the Sacramento region Tuesday and Wednesday targeting about 75 homes serving as suspected marijuana growing sites that authorities say are operated by a Chinese organized crime syndicate.

The raids, which involved more than 500 federal, state and local agents, hit homes from Elk Grove to Sacramento to rural areas and are aimed at forcing the forfeiture of about 100 homes to the federal government, an effort valued at hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate and marijuana.

"This represents one of the largest residential forfeiture efforts in the nation's history."; the U.S. Justice Department said."

HIGH TIMES: Michigan May Legalize Recreational Marijuana Before November Ballot

In an effort to suppress a weed voter bump, Michigan may legalize recreational marijuana before November ballot.

"What seems on its surface like an early win for cannabis advocates in Michigan may, in fact, be an attempt to rig the state’s upcoming general election. The question of legalizing recreational marijuana will appear on the November ballot, and voters are expected to turn out to register their support. But the prospect of higher voter turnout has some GOP lawmakers in Lansing worried. Concerned better turnout could impact other races, they’ve begun discussing ways to take legalization off the ballot. But broad support for the issue leaves them with just one move. And that's why Michigan may legalize recreational marijuana before November ballot."

AP: Marijuana dispute pits county against state of Oregon

"The lawsuit by the commission contends the state cannot dictate marijuana regulations over county restrictions because marijuana remains illegal under the federal Controlled Substances Act.

"Any person in any state who possesses, distributes, or manufactures marijuana for medical or recreational purposes, or attempts or conspires to do so, is committing a federal crime,"; Wally Hicks, a lawyer for the county, wrote in the lawsuit that names state Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum as a defendant, along with the state.

Rosenblum's spokeswoman Kristina Edmunson said she can't comment on pending litigation but noted in an email: "We will defend the state laws of Oregon related to marijuana.";

The lawsuit calls on a federal court in Medford to declare that two ballot measures in 1998 and 2014 that legalized medical and recreational marijuana, respectively, are pre-empted by federal law.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who famously declared that "good people don't smoke marijuana"; recently gave U.S. prosecutors more leeway to pursue federal anti-marijuana laws in states that have legalized pot.

PIX11 NEWS: Medical marijuana dispensary planned for Manhattan`s 5th Avenue

A medical marijuana dispensary is planned for 5th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

MedMen Manhattan will open to the public on Friday, April 20. The 10,000 square foot space will be one of only three medical marijuana dispensaries allowed to operate in Manhattan.

It's billed as a premium cannabis shopping experience, but only for patients with a prescription.

HIGH TIMES: Man Fired For Smoking Weed Gets His Job Back With Bonus Compensation

"In October 2017, two workers at Bombardier Transportation were fired after a supervisor said he saw them smoking weed at work. More specifically, the supervisor said he saw the men taking their afternoon break outdoors. He said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from their direction and saw smoke.

Further, the supervisor said that when he approached the men, he saw one of them toss something to the ground. The object smoldered and then went out. However, the supervisor was unable to find anything when he searched the ground.

Despite not finding any physical evidence, the supervisor brought the two men to Human Resources. Throughout the entire incident, the two men insisted that they hadn't been smoking weed. They also said that they would probably fail a drug test since they smoked at home on their own time. Regardless, the company fired both men.

Now, a few months later, one of the men has been reinstated. His co-worker's case is still ongoing. But for the man who got his job back, things have worked out pretty well.
