So much WEED in Oregon? Feds say so!
Well Oregon has gone and done it. It has grown too much weed and now the Feds are looking to keep an eye on all that Pot flooding out of the state and into the Black Market. Well done Oregon, from one frying pan to another. I can say I have had first hand experience of this. I own a small portion of a very successful Recreational farm in Oregon. I also served as consultant during setup and continued the next year in managing the operation.
Oregon is looking at capping license's now as rumor surfaces that lawsuits are being possibly filled against the OLCC for not offering a more stable marketplace for its business owners. All of this comes together in a perfect storm as prices have plummeted 66% from last year on the wholesale side. Very little price reduction to the end-user though!? In example a farm that produces a pound of Cannabis, this time last year "2017" could expect compensation of $1500/pound for the commodity. 2018 prices are sitting at a all time low of $500/pound if you can even sell it in the flooded market.
Thank you for writing this, I have wanted to talk about this problem for so long. But it would not have had the news that they are capping the licenses! That would be amazing! We have not seen much herb move in our neck of the woods for a minute. Hopefully that is more than a rumor. Great post!
Thank you, I hear that movement is nill in Oregon. Its really unfortunate, so much potential. I hope the best for all involved.
It’s reminiscent of big tobacco. They buy tobacco almost for nothing from the farmers meanwhile they charge so much more to the end user. Same thing going on in cannabis.
Originally from North Carolina so Im very familiar with how little guys get pushed to the side. I used to grow an acre of tobacco for American Spirit before they sold out. I then lost my contract. Then Ganja-Ma
What a tragedy. Always willing to give some lonely buds some lovin' , and eventual smoking :) . That is nuts to hear the prices are so low, just a few years ago (before legalization) people could easily bring pounds from bc for 3500-4500 . Times are a changin, sucks for the farmers - that can really price a lot of craft growers out of the market.
It would be great if we could just throw it from the balconies so that all could just catch the excess.
That would be lovely.
Yes, you understand it very clearly. Times are changing, and quickly
Better just legalize cannabis everywhere so none of that weed goes to waste.
I used to think opposite, not so much anymore, the market could use some standardization.
