John F. Kennedy smoked cannabis in the White House for therapeutic relief
Anyone who still has fluctuations about the medical potential of cannabis may be interested in learning that one of the most well-known beneficiaries of therapeutic benefits from the herb is the legendary US president, John F. Kennedy.
The late leader suffered from severe Back Pain and Addison's disease. According to John F. Kennedy: Biography (2006), he relieved his symptoms with the help of the hemp herb. Although other presidents have publicly recognized the use, Kennedy appears to have benefited from "a few cannabis cigarettes" he has taken as a medicine at the White House.
"On the evening of July 16, 1962, according to Jim Truith [ Washington Post ], Kennedy and Mary Mayer smoked cannabis together.
The president smoked three of the six cigarettes that Mary brought him. He did not feel any effects at first. Then he closed his eyes and refused the fourth. " Suppose the Russians do something right now ," he said.
Although the thought of a "fuzzy" American president in the Cold War era might seem disturbing enough for some, given his condition, it may not have been a bad option. Symptoms of Addison's disease, which causes the adrenal glands to produce insufficient steroid hormones, include abdominal pain, weight loss, very low blood pressure, and possibly coma. Patients report that cannabis can provide effective relief.
