Modern will produce 20 million doses of the vaccine by December
The pharmaceutical company Modernna will produce 20 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine by December. The company made the announcement on Monday. The corona vaccine should be given twice a month. Two crore dose of vaccine produced in the first installment will be sufficient for one crore people.
Stephen Bansell, CEO of Modern, said yesterday,
His company will produce 50 to 100 crore dose vaccines by 2021.
Modern's announcement has had an immediate effect on the company's share price.
Its share price rose 16 percent to 9149.50.
Modernna is the second pharmaceutical company to apply for emergency vaccine approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Earlier on November 20, Pfizer had applied for approval of its own vaccine in collaboration with Biotech.
The two companies are hoping for final FDA approval on December 10. Pfizer says it will be able to produce 50 million vaccines by the end of December, about half of which will be used inside the United States. Like Modern, the corona vaccine made by this company should be given in two doses every month.
Alex Azar, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, reiterated his hope that the two vaccines, developed by Pfizer and Modern, would receive FDA approval and that distribution would begin as planned.
